Everyone is understandably sharing the Miller quote, but I found this response from photographer Christopher Anderson to be notable, too.

You know how I know Mayor Dickens’s “plan” for a new heavy rail transit station at Armour Yards is a crackpot, back-of-the-napkin scam? Because when MARTA hired an independent expert to study ridership, the new bus routes *** completely bypass the area ***.

. @ajc.com barely mentions $1.9 billion+ subsidy this project will receive & doesn't mention the new $200M+ if TAD/TIF extension goes thru.

Downtown residential development in Atlanta is a good thing, but no deeply affordable housing (& little even moderately affordable) in location perfect for it.
@ajc.com shilling for the LA real estate billionaires who will benefit most if local electeds betray the public and extend the TADs.
CIM is set to pocket an extra $200M+ of our taxes if the TADs go to 2055. Atlanta schoolkids don't need teachers, after all.

Centennial Yards’ rise heralds a new downtown Atlanta
The $5 billion Centennial Yards project is rising within the 50-acre hole long known as the Gulch, an area once thought to be too complex to ever be developed.

My hottest take is that letting cops park in red zones for mundane errands and coffee breaks; I think “you can break the law at your discretion as a job perk” is the small domino that ends in the large domino of “shooting protesters in the face with rubber bullets”
It must be wild to get to abuse the public then pay for it with the public's money

If I didn't show up to work for seven weeks, my boss would assume I had quit my job and would have hired someone else.

House Democrats should take outside-the-box action. Declare the Republicans as having abandoned their jobs. Elect a new "Speaker".

Have a Court fight over it.

Atlanta should install 28 miles of protected bike lanes before the World Cup, then leave them in place & enhance where necessary afterwards.

You should be able to roll safely from every quadrant of the Atlanta Beltline to Mercedes Benz Stadium.

The Atlanta snake eating itself:

"Let's fix our car-centric urbanism to boost MARTA ridership"

"No, MARTA stinks. Fix that first, then we'll talk urbanism"

"Maybe do both? Quickly increasing operations funding for MARTA is politically inviable"

"I don't care. Fix MARTA first"

I was recently asked how I got involved.
I just began; one ride, one yes at a time.
Started a BikeBus, tuned up neighbors’ bikes,
joined local talks on safer streets for all.
You don’t need a title.
Just take a step.
Then another.
That’s how change rolls forward.

Alarming!!
According to reports in the Georgia Tech subreddit, more than 20 GT international students have had their visas revoked.

No word on why, but Tech students are remarkably non-political most of the time. It's a bunch of try hard smart kids trying to invent stuff and start companies.

The Georgia Legislature is trying to sneak through a law to effectively create secret police in this state.

The changes in the bill, if passed, would gut the Georgia Open Records Act. My understanding is that it puts initial incident reports by police off limits.
Last night, GA lawmakers added v. bad amendments to another bill, SB 12. Changes would shield lawmakers from open record requests abt their communications. Would also shield law enforcement from sharing almost ANY info abt arrests & stops. Gutting accountability. georgiarecorder.com/briefs/georg...
