I used to work for a hockey team and I used to live in Canada (not in that order). Now I do other stuff.

PEI, ATL, Thrashers nostalgia, random music, food takes, dad life
How did I get snow flurries before my mom or siblings? They all live in Canada. I'm in Georgia.

Arthur Blank could've bought the Thrashers for $40 million less in 2011. They didn't have a place to play though with being Atlanta Spirit tenants.

This is great news though. Our house will absolutely go to some women's soccer games.
BREAKING: The NWSL is awarding its 17th franchise to Atlanta and will join the league for a record expansion fee of $165 million, sources tell The Athletic.

I haven't deleted my account yet (still holding out hope it will be useful when Atlanta gets another NHL team), but I deleted the app from my phone.
Vital piece of investigative reporting from Sky. They've uncovered the X algorithm which feeds users extremist right wing material from the moment they join the site. It is a far-right radicalisation engine, by design.

An hour and 20 minutes in line to vote for nothing but two seats on the Georgia Public Service Commission.

Very bizarre.

@anthonymkreis.bsky.social Random question but Google was inconclusive and I figured you'd know- do you have to be an American citizen to be a member of the State Bar of Georgia?

12 years ago my wife noticed a coworker was struggling. She invited her to stay with us. After a few weeks she drove her to rehab on Halloween.

That coworker, whose life was very much in danger, has since gotten married, had a baby, and works in law enforcement helping kids.

Check on people.

I hope the NHL is watching this to see how it goes.
The SPHL is implementing new overtime rules that aim to eliminate the with-possession regroup that annoys the hell out of most of us.

Thoughts?

There are 3 more hanging on the wall downstairs.

This. This. This. Food banks generally have buying power and partnerships where your money actually buys more food and feeds more people if they’re the ones doing the purchasing.
please give money and not food, it takes a not insignificant amount of time to sort and stock donations and money goes very far. also make sure you donate to a place that treats people with dignity and respect and allows access to anyone
as we reach the SNAP cliff just a gentle reminder to do-gooders that the most efficient use of resources is to contribute to organizations that are already established. unless nothing exists in your area (and it likely does whether you know it) now is probably not the time to stand something up

My wife is a vet. Today she had a lady come in with her cat, Mitchell. Mitchell loves her CPAP and sleeps by it. When Mitchell wants her to wake up, he TURNS OFF the CPAP.

How many current NFL players have the same names as former NHL goaltenders? With Jack Campbell and Cam Ward it's at least 2, which is already mildly surprising. Are there more? Johan Hedberg isn't suiting up as a punter anywhere, right?
imagine being assigned to block jack campbell and you release and he’s just, already making the tackle

By the time Atlanta has an NHL team again the salary cap is going to be higher than the Atlanta Thrashers sale price ($110 million USD).

The relocation fee at the time was $60 million, making True North's cost $170 million.

I've said it before and I'll say it again- if people are getting paid to protest, please hook me up. I have time and I could use the cash.
Sean Duffy: "The No Kings protest, Maria, really frustrating. This is part of antifa, paid protesters. It begs the question who's funding it."

Aside from landing an internship with an NHL team that turned into a 6 yr job and then getting a job at a world class university where I worked for a decade, and also winning an 8-day trip to Costa Rica?

No. Oh right- the lasting friendships with people I met through blogging and tweeting.
Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

Today is Leif Erikson Day.
The day celebrates the arrival of Erikson and the Vikings in what is now Canada around 1000 years ago. Based on the Vinland Sagas, it is believed that he founded the settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows, located in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Not paying furloughed federal employees definitely won't come to bite anyone in the ass in the midterms.
Johnson: "It's true that in previous shutdowns, many or most furloughed employees have been paid for the time they were furloughed, but there is new legal analysis - I don't know the details, I just saw a headline - but there are some legal analysts saying that might not be appropriate or necessary"

ChatGPT struggles with basic tasks

I needed an updated graphic to promote an event. I had the logo but with last year's date. I told ChatGPT to change 2024 to 2025. It did. And it changed all of the colors in the white and blue logo. I did 6 rounds of revisions and gave up without a working logo.
