Calling authors petit bourgeoisie is indeed insane. We are artisans and we deserve to profit from our labor.
That said, digital piracy has never been shown to represent actual lost sales, and may in fact DRIVE sales. I think authors should cool out about it.

Capitalism has done a thorough job of brainwashing us into believing that only corporate trademarks are real businesses, so that we forget that smaller, independent businesses are (usually) a much better choice. You can actually buy stuff from real people, to whom your dollars make real difference
