"A Psalm for the Wild-built," by Becky Chambers
"Litany for a Broken World" by L.J. Cohen
(Because why stop at one?)
As with potato chips, I can’t stop with just one:
“The Bog Wife”, by Kay Chronister
”Even Though I Knew the End”, by C.L. Polk
“The City in Glass”, by Nghi Vo
“The Chatelaine”, by Kate Heartfield
“One Message Remains”, by Premee Mohamed
If you see this and agree, you are obligated to rec a book by a fantasy author who's still writing. I don't make the rules.

I mean, I do. Please though? It'd be great.

Great thread:
I've said this a couple times in interviews lately but it's annoying that the lesson publishing will take away from this isn't "invest in more specific, niche, and/or weird books that cater to an under-served readership." It'll be "MORE SPORTS" bc that's a variable they can quantify.
I wrote about how Heated Rivalry is just the latest case of how publishers, with all their data, are still not able to predict what will be the next sensation. lithub.com/get-ready-fo...

Also, if you were wondering why the season finale of Leverage:Redemption last year was a refutation of the Melian Dialogue, "the strong do what they will", condemned systemic cruelty and offered illegal resistance is legitimate, as opposed to a fun heist, it's because WE'D DONE THE FUCKING READING.

I had an amazing time at Arisia this weekend! Participated in some great panels and caught up with old friends and made some new ones. This was originally going to be my only con this year, but that may have to change -- I had far too much fun!

I mostly write short fiction, but I'd love people to read my latest story in Strange Horizons.

It's about worm-filled doppelgangers and why being cis-passing kinda sucks.

Just finished In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune -- a lovely, bittersweet reflection on what it means to be human, in which almost all of the characters are robots. It's not as light as House on the Cerulean Sea, but it has just as much heart!

I don't have any books yet, but check out this thread full of awesome trans and nonbinary authors!
On that note:

Trans authors (I mean authors who are trans, NOT cis people who write about trans people), drop your book links here and I'll try to repost as many as I can throughout the day.

Cis people: Repost trans authors' book links.

Cis people who want to complain about being excluded: gtfo
Being a trans author is fucking weird right now. Hell is actively unfolding all around us but I still need to be like, "hey, everyone, wanna buy my silly little queer book? It won't make anything better, but it's kinda fun?"

So....hey, everyone, wanna buy my silly little queer book?

There's basically nothing in the world that makes me happier than shouting about books I love.

(Okay, maybe donuts.)
Every month I try to review books that I
A) enjoyed
B) want to geek out about
in my @washingtonpost.com SFF review column.

But please believe me when I say that all five books I review this month are *extraordinary*. I felt so lucky to be able to review them.

Useful translation in thread
This really does make the whole "slate" argument sound even more ridiculous
I wasn't planning to comment more about the Hugos but the discussions about the "slate" really bug me. I don't think I have seen any translations of the blogpost from Science Fiction World (the publication that put out the list), so let me try to translate it very carefully here for context.
