DuckDuckGo is doing a poll on whether users want AI or not. Currently 94% of ~32K users voted No.

This is a real threat, but it is also a build up/precursor to annexing Canada.

The Canadian government should be taking a stronger stance against this, for all the reasons.
Trump just placed a tariff on most of the EU of 10% that will increase to 25% in June unless they agree to sell him Greenland.

This is mad king shit.

One thing the good people of the Twin Cities are demonstrating is how an existing volunteer and community support culture makes for resilience -- many networks and services can be ramped up in response to occupation, instead of invented whole cloth. Lessons for all of us no matter where we live.

How long will it take them to figure out that genAI is just a slow, expensive way of producing things that have a cheap, mass-produced feel?

As I said, badass.
Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Quotes were disabled on the last thing I reposted, I just want to say that the photographer in the picture is badass and I don't give that praise lightly.

He threw his camera at another photographer to prevent it from being confiscated.

I am shocked* to learn that the techbros lied about AI (again).
Sounds like a big deal.

“Now, a damning new study could put AI companies on the defensive. In it, Stanford and Yale researchers found compelling evidence that AI models are actually copying all that data, not “learning” from it.”

How goes the quest to monetize LLMs, you ask?

We’re down to “sell ads.”

I am furious about this.
As someone who lives downtown Ottawa and who was living dead centre of the "Red Zone" where I had to literally show ID at a police checkpoint in order to get to my apartment, a huge middle finger to this and what it's about to enable.

100% this!
I'd also like to renew the call for media to stop using "Ottawa" as a shorthand for "The Federal Government."

It sounds like nitpicking a word choice but it absolutely contributes to a culture where people outside our city don't differentiate between a city and a government.

I am still trying to get published so sometimes I buy a lottery ticket to treat myself to a better risk:reward investment.
I don't gamble on sports, ever. However, I do buy a lottery ticket sometimes.

The thing I'm buying when I buy a lotto ticket is less the infinitesimal chance of winning as much as the opportunity to dream of what I'd do with the money.
