I don’t like being referred to as a Yankee but I’ve realized this is not at all because I’m Southern, but because I specifically resent being associated with traditional New England Protestant culture and its flavorless foods
All people from the U.S. are Yankees. I say this as a person born and raised in The South because pissing off That Specific Kind of Southerner is a moral good.

I say I’m from New York which is probably why so many USians hate us.
I actually DO pretty much always say “I’m from the USA” instead of “I’m an American” when I’m traveling internationally (but I sure as hell don’t call myself a USian)
I don't think I've personally used the term USian much, but I have definitely said thinks like "I'm from the USA"/etc instead of "I'm American". I know it probably doesn't make much difference for most, but at least some people outside the USA but in the Americas appreciate it.

I know that it's a lost cause to say that Christmas music shouldn't start until after Thanksgiving, even though it's the correct choice...but at least there should be a moratorium from Erev Thanksgiving into after the meal.

Whether this was random street crime or targeted political violence, I think it was bad for the president to unnecessarily put the National Guard in harm’s way like this. They simply don’t need to be there.

I have diagnosed anxiety disorder and even I don’t worry this much about what other people think of me.
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.

Pretty much what she should have expected. She married someone who has a fundamentally different set of morals than her. Someone who fundamentally disagrees with her on who should/should not be counted as a human being and given the rights deserving of one.

it fascinates me how most everyone in the U.S. does turkey for Thanksgiving, but we are all over the map as to what we eat for Christmas (as is proper for a hugely diverse nation).

Just a reminder that in addition to Trump refusing to exercise because he thinks the body is like an alkaline battery with a lifetime store of energy so anytime you do anything you steal that energy and it cannot be recharged, he's also a germaphobe who is afraid of being poisoned.
