I have long posited that Daniel Craig's accent in Glass Onion is better than Knives Out because in Knives Out he is trying to do a real Southern accent and is bad at it but in Glass Onion he is just talking like Foghorn Leghorn, which is something a real gay Southern weirdo would do.

As an author, I don't make a whole lot of money, but at the same time I need to read a lot of books to stay aware of trends and support my fellow authors. Obviously if I spend all my profits on other people's books, I'm not coming out ahead!

So: ways to read lots of indie books for cheap.

Okay, because I need to try and re-spark some writing community joy after… *gestures at everything* how about a revisit on a way you can absolutely support authors you love for zero dollars: by dropping a low-stress, three-sentence review somewhere.

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.

One day, I'll get people to understand that when I say, "sorry, what?" or, "what?"

What I need is not an explanation, but simply for the previous statement too be repeated verbatim.

I didn't hear you. Explaining the thing I didn't hear won't help either of us.

We made a turkey last week (we love turkey eating season), and today it was Vat Of Soup Day.

The stock is the gravy, thinned with the water we boiled the rutabega in. There's turkey chunks, onion, celery, carrots, tomatoes, and cubes of rutabega.

You don’t even have to do the burger part. Just the street corn will measurably improve your life. So let’s start there. Open a can of corn, dump in a skillet with oil, & char

Okay. If you're in line at a fast food place, don't have a long conversation with your buddy, then stand for another 5 minutes trying to decide what you want. When you've finally ordered, don't rush back to ask if the thing you explicitly excluded is in your order, and complain when it's not.

Ugh.

I #AmWriting, and I have a question.

I'm avoiding writing about cops, but do Fire Marshals and other arson investigators fall under copaganda rules? I want to write some #UF with a #firewalker, but that'll probably include contact with officials.

I'm at the dealership for my new car's First Maintenence Visit. Oil change, tire rotation, car wash.

I'll have all the others done in more local shops, but I thought, for the first one, I should have it done at the dealer's.

I love my biggest cat, I really do. He's 20 pounds of soft, scaredy-cat love.

But. Last night, a scary hissing sound happened and he launched himself off my lap leaving a 5" long, deep scratch. Today, he knocked over my coffee and I'm having to clear off the whole table AND wash the floor.

And what illustrates it being EVEN MORE WRONG, are recent suspensions with restoration with much much more egregious offenses in the same line of what Bluesky claims Link was banned over.
