When Richard Epstein can explain how he underestimated the number of American covid deaths by 1.2 million people, I'll listen to him about legal history.

While the pasty incels who work the federal agencies continue to churn out feeble, bloodless AI pastiches of Axis propaganda, here’s how a living breathing artist powerfully invokes design history. This is by illustrator Emily K in South Philly, a free poster-sized download on her website: →

Justice Jackson rightly points out Article III standing is now a Calvinball filter, inconsistent from case to case. Ones like student loan forgiveness or anti-LGBT discrimination dressed up as religious freedom had winning plaintiffs with no harms. Many consumer/privacy class actions get tossed tho
In dissent, Jackson (joined by Sotomayor) basically says: Why are we making it easier for Republicans to challenge vote-counting rules and other election laws while making it harder for normal people to get their cases heard in federal court? www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

This network news segment should have been a self-indulgent podcast instead. It’s why podcasts were invented
Update — Here is what the new apparent CBS News segment "Whiskey Fridays with Tony Dokoupil" may look like:

“We can’t abolish ICE, that’s ridiculous.” Buddy, they just abolished the Department of Education. We can do whatever the fuck we want.

once again: ICE is operating as if they have a general warrant, the specific type of warrant the founders were most concerned about when drafting the 4th Amendment
Not remotely legal. Minnesota needs to arrest these thugs breaking down doors right now, before they start grabbing even more power

If calling a state secret police agent a murderer for committing murder will lead to more murder by the state secret police, it sure seems like the problem is with the secret police
Homan: "We gotta stop the hateful rhetoric. Saying this officer is a murderer is dangerous. It's just ridiculous. It's gonna infuriate people more which means there's gonna be more incidents like this."

Here is a video of a frozen creek that had begun to thaw, and the water was flowing beneath the thin ice on top. I took this because it was soothing and wonderfully bloopy and I wanted to listen to it for hours. You are all welcome to enjoy it, too. Let your brain settle here and rest for a moment.

Very rarely in human history can you definitively say you are fighting on the side of Good but by god this is one of those times, we are going to defeat ICE and the Border Patrol change this wretched world into one where borders no longer kill

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

I saw a take where someone said “but what do we do with ice? We can’t just fire 20,000 people who have guns and training“

Jfc

Abolish the agency, RIF them, if they break the law deal with them

I am very tired of “but what if X happens“ as a justification for not doing the right thing

And they’ll say they can’t be held accountable because when they pulled the trigger they were afraid for their lives. Their lives which they spent serving an ideology of fear, a machine of fear, a holistic regime of fear. A culture-spanning engine of the ugliest and most dishonest fears there are.

ICE has only existed since 2003. A Bush-era creation, it is a militarized federal secret police that has been imbued with the Supreme Court with the unconstitutional power to ignore the fourth amendment.

Abolishing it and salting the earth where it grew is the moderate stance.

one takeaway from the grok noncon porn thing is that much of the media just isn't interested in an issue they can't pretend has two sides or that doesn't give them an opportunity to shit on the left. Also it would be uncomfortable to justify remaining on twitter after acknowledging it
