Phenomenal, difficult piece from one of the best going, on one of the most important subjects of the moment.
This is the biggest, toughest article I’ve done about so-called “AI psychosis.” It’s the story of a man who committed a horrific crime in his youth but served his time and against all odds found love and a new life—one that completely unraveled after he started talking to Google’s Gemini chatbot.
He Grew Obsessed With an AI Chatbot. Then He Vanished in the Ozarks
Jon Ganz committed a terrible crime in his youth, but he survived prison, fell in love, and started over. His new life unraveled in a way nobody could have predicted.

I would love to be part of the conversation on MSNBC related to the Kimmel story and it's chilling effects on first amendment, but unfortunately I was terminated by MSNBC for stating that "hateful thoughts lead to hateful words which lead to hateful actions".

A deaf and mute Mongolian man seeking asylum has spent more than 80 days at an ICE facility. During that time, he has not had an opportunity to see a judge or communicate with anyone who understands Mongolian Sign Language, according to his sister and lawyer.

had an idea for a video game: You play John Q Public. One day, some weird guys kidnap your girlfriend Liberty. Later, you receive a letter from President X, the inhabitant of the devil's white house, saying to save Liberty you must fight your way across america and face THE FINAL BOSS OF EVERY STATE

I have a deep aversion to local TV news, but now I am ON it because last year, the power company Arizona Public Service cut off electricity to my mother’s house outside of Phoenix, killing her.

An 82-year-old woman died in May 2024 after her power was cut off on a very hot day. Her son and an advocate say this shows an issue with state policies.

I was a social security recipient from the age of 12 through 18. That’s not some weird thing or corruption. It’s called survivors’ benefits. You don’t have to know this. You’re blessed if you don’t. But if you’re going to speak publicly abt the program you need to know this.
Jeanine: We found out there are people who are between the ages of one and four who are getting social security

Jessica: That's the benefit for kids whose parents are dead.

I hate to be the one to say it, but this has been missing from nearly all the commentary–

Gang members deserve due process rights as much as anyone else.

Disappearing them is as much a crime against humanity as disappearing unaffiliated men.

If USPS goes private, the first thing a private company will do is get rid of last-mile service to areas that are not profitable to serve.

This is a move that will absolutely fuck rural areas.

I had to reread this to be sure I understood since it is so Kafkaesque:

hospitals are giving medications to patients in labor, only to report them to child welfare authorities when they or their newborns test positive for *the same medications the hospital just gave them*

This is just gonna suck real bad and no resistance grifter memes or political platitudes will make it suck any less.
The GOP is apparently planning on passing a reconciliation package with as much as $120 BILLION in border-related funding.

To put that in context, if you add up ever single Border Patrol budget from 1990 through 2024, adjusted for inflation, it's $121 billion. That's THIRTY-FOUR YEARS of funding.
