Last month, Democrats surged to victories in NJ, VA, and GA, in part driven by anger over AI data centers driving increased energy costs.

But the House Democrats' new commission on AI seems more interested in winning back Big Tech billionaires than it does winning over voters.
Hakeem Jeffries announced the creation of the “House Democratic Commission on AI and the Innovation Economy,” and handpicked its five commissioners. Unfortunately, these new members have a history of supporting Big Tech. From Henry Burke: trib.al/9FYNXSv
Democratic Voters Are Clamoring for AI Regulation. Their Leaders Aren’t Interested. - The American Prospect
A new AI commission established by House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries includes several corporate-friendly legislators.

@msnowreports.bsky.social still hasn't touched it
The NYT waited three hours after Trump's Reiner outburst to add the tiniest of updates to its coverage of the story, and it only did so after the NY Post and a few GOP types spoke out about it. It wasn't news until "even those on the right" were upset.

The WaPo still has nada, far as I can see.
One of the great failures of contemporary political news coverage in a lot of media is the unspoken principle that no violation of norms or decency by Trump is really news, worthy of sustained attention, unless it also upsets people who love him. It isn't "not taking the bait"; it's sleepwalking.

feels like a pretty obvious layup for Democrats to say, "this is an egregiously disgusting statement, even for him, and it underlines that the President is undergoing significant physical and mental deterioration, and either he is lying about it or is not aware of it."

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

Potential 2028 candidates are zeroing in on ways to hit Gavin Newsom. The main attack points?
-He's a California liberal
-Hypocrisy during Covid-19 lockdowns
-Homelessness and cost of living in California
-His affair with his campaign manager's wife

Since people got fired for quoting Charlie Kirk's exact words, I think we should all start quoting some of Rob Reiner's exact words:

The goal of organizing is not to convince your opponent. The goal of organizing is to defeat your opponent.
IMO it's hard to combat the dangerousness of the right by participating in a platform where they aren't present.
I think the best way to explain the X vs Bluesky preference is whether a person thinks the left is more annoying than the right is dangerous.

The reason so many Noah Smiths end up on the X side of that equation is that while the left annoys them personally, the right mostly endangers other people.

MSNBC doing the same thing right now
Of course the prime minister will use a terrorist attack to say that anyone who is pro Palestine is a terrorist and of course the BBC will take the opportunity to have a radio 4 debate on whether the great replacement is happening or not.

Reactionary centrism will increase until morals improve.

Rob Reiner was a beloved Californian who always used his platform to make the world better. Donald Trump making light of him and his wife’s murders is a new low for this petty, hateful man. His party needs to condemn this.

An Anti-Defamation League that actually believed in its stated mission would savage Trump for his comments about Rob Reiner and his wife, but they are too busy trying to find out whether an Oberlin student said something critical of Israel.

So Jack Reed goes on CNN this morning: praises cops that have bungled the Brown case so far, mentions zero on gun control, and then finishes it off by saying we need more troops in Syria.

Please someone get me an opposition party in this country

Really helps when MSNBC and CNN both cover this story and refuse to mention this deranged post (I just watched this happen)

The "opposition" party probably won't talk about it either
Since Very Famous & supposedly Very Serious People at the center of the National Conversation™️ have told you repeatedly that The Democrats main problem is that they Talk Funny & that this is alienating Real Folkz, here is the Republican Narcissist In Chief talking about Rob Reiner z”l 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Anyone writing like this is simply telling they are too online (and specifically are spending too much time on X).
No idea what telly Lord Sewell is watching, because I can't think of a single show with this plotline let alone it being something that is inescapable for young white men who subsequently now face a crisis of masculinity drawing them to the far right?? 🙃

“I watched sports” is a new one for me on a resume.
This NYT story failed the reader by not digging deeper. One subject dropped out of college after one year (five years ago) and lists "Windows" as his skillset. Story should be: young conservatives who blame immigrants for their personal failures and whose lives won't be improved w/ fewer immigrants

Q: What exactly was the evidence that led you to this person of interest?
