the $75 million Jeff Bezos set on fire for that Melania propaganda piece could have funded most independent newsrooms for literally decades
always bears repeating that this is NOT a financial decision. jeff bezos is worth over 250 billion dollars. he can afford to lose many millions and never even notice it. this is, at its core, a political and personal decision by bezos to destroy the post
WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington Post says one-third of its staff across all departments, not just the newsroom, is being laid off.

I haven't seen a single email in the Epstein drop that is someone saying "you're a horrible monster, don't ever email me again." It's just a whole lot of rich people who knew what Epstein was and still kissed his ass because it was good for their class standing.

This. Ultimately, the idea that bad people can't make good art is the old fallacy that beauty equals goodness, just at one remove.
Subconscious theory "if terrible people make art, it can only be terrible," that's not how it works. Sometimes in the art there is true catharsis & person is good. Other times, veiled confessions & manipulation. We can only know the difference by truly listening & respecting those around the artist.

There’s literally a straight line between Trump, Epstein, and the retaliatory lawsuits against women who came forward with allegations against celebrity men like Amber Heard and Blake Lively. They all even have the same PR folks. And yet people still refuse to see it

"Stolen land" rhetoric also has extremely nasty implications outside the West.

For instance, north India and Bengal were violently conquered by the Delhi Sultanate. Are Kashmir, Pakistan, and Bangladesh "stolen land" from the Hindus? How about Hokkaido and its colonization by mainland Japanese?
Also where do you draw the line for stolen land?

Is Israel land stolen from the Palestinians? The Franks? Arabs? Syriac Christians? The Israelites?

Was Irish land stolen by the English? The Normans? Or by the Eoganachta and the other Q-Celtic peoples?

It really depends on when you pick
"no human is illegal on stolen land" is a stupid slogan because of the stolen land part. indigenous peoples, whatever that means, also don't have a right to deny the legal protections of citizenship to foreigners

Yeah India (and South Asia, generally) is one reason why this sort of discourse is dangerous and actively needs to be disincentivized.

Nobody wants to see WW2-style ethnic cleansing perpetrated in a region home to four times more people than 1940s Europe.

But, yes, “would an AfD voter agree with you?” is a key gating question when choosing a pro-immigration political slogan.

Separating the art from the artist also doesn't mean what people think it does in a mainstream kinda way.

It's a tool for literary criticism wherein you think critically about a work based solely on what the work itself reveals.

It's not a free ticket to just consume art made by terrible people...
"can we separate the art from the artist," blargh, dunno, uhh, sigh. I get that some like exploring that, and maybe this is just from being asked that 2000 times, but it's lowkey a way of centering the abuser IMO. YMMV but overall i've come to regard that question in a very Admiral Acbkar way:
a man in a white shirt with a red face is saying it 's a trap .
Alt: Admiral Ackbar in Star Wars says it's a trap

There's a point, well below a billion dollars, where the amount of money you have lets you rid yourself of anyone who can be a check on your worst impulses, and replace them with people who tell you those worst impulses are somehow valorous. Rare is the billionaire with someone to tell them "no."
