All I have ever heard about every news story from Bill Clinton to drag shows is “it’s awful, parents have to explain this to their children, why can’t we just let kids be kids?”

Now an entire classroom is going to go home to parents trying to explain why their five year friend was taken by the govt
Liam is one of four Columbia Heights, MN school district students who have been taken by ICE in the last two weeks, the school district said. Liam's teacher: “He is so kind and loving, and his classmates miss him. He ... just brightens the room. All I want is for him to be back here and safe.”

We learned today that in just over a week, Elon Musk’s AI chatbot 'Grok' generated and shared at least 1.8 million sexualized images of women - all without their consent. This is abhorrent. We need the legislature to take action this session to bring AI accountability to New Mexico.

The constitutional remedy for a government that conspired in secret to systematically violate the Fourth Amendment is impeachment of all officials involved, removal, disqualification, and criminal prosecution.
At a time of unprecedented daily scandals, this this whistleblower complaint, and the memo it reveals for the first time, breaks through for me as beyond the pale.

It's the federal government conspiring in secret to subvert the Fourth Amendment.

Guardian on the left, NY Times on the right. Which one more directly conveys information and the stakes to the reader?

ICE has not paid its bills to 3rd party providers since OCTOBER and the situation will likely persist for MONTHS, a Popular Information investigation reveals

Meanwhile, critically ill ICE detainees are not receiving care

Some perspective: The S&P opened down -1.3% on Trump's Greenland saber-rattling. That's $750 billion of wealth destroyed -- roughly equal to estimates of the value of Greenland.

And so ~in dollar terms~ his shenanigans have already cost the US one Greenland, and we've got nothing to show for it.

"... why do they have a "right of ownership" anyway? There are no written documents, ..."

Um, actually there ARE written documents:

USA's declaration on Danish sovereignty of Greenland, 1916
On 4th August 1916, the American government issued a declaration to the Danish government that it would not raise objections if Denmark extended its interests in Greenland to include the entire island...

There's no better way to observe MLK Day than to go on the news and insist that the civil rights protesters objecting to police brutality are actually "paid agitators"
Rep. Byron Donalds: "These agitators -- who by the way are paid, folks. America, they are paid to do this kind of mess."

Koh: Trump has now spent $30 billion from the last bill for 10,000 more I.C.E. Agents that are going to be on the streets. That $30 billion would cover all the ACA subsidies for a year. It would eliminate all co-pays for prescription drugs for people from a year, and eliminate all medical debt.

One way to tell if you’re “The Baddies” is if you’re the guy in helmet and body armor firing tear gas at high school students AT THEIR OWN SCHOOL.

CBP and ICE are a terrible mix of aggro and poorly trained, supercharged by feeling totally unaccountable.

Has a court ruled on whether, under Section 230, a web site’s AI generating content based on a user prompt is treated as the web site’s speech? Seems to me it should be, just as if the site operator published speech answering someone’s question.

BWEPRA
I am not a Section 230 expert but being that Twitter is creating and publishing these photos I wonder if they actually have any civil legal protection? @kenwhite.bsky.social ? @akivamcohen.bsky.social ?
What X is allowing Grok to do is unlawful or regulatory-illegal in multiple jurisdictions, creates clear DSA violations, and continues despite regulator scrutiny. The images do not need to be pornographic, non-consensual sexualised or intimate depictions are enough.

So as someone who's a professional creator, and has always been a creator of art in many mediums ...

I've encountered a lot of people in life

A LOT OF PEOPLE

who want to do art, who think they have good ideas for art, but don't want to do the work

Now...
If a machine can fart out a 400-page novel based on any stray shower thought, why would even the “author” want to read it?

But they don’t get it. Or maybe they do but are in deep denial

There's a considerable literature on having patients shop by price. Unsurprisingly patients just end up not getting care.

These people don't give a shit about evidence. Or patients.
Roger Marshall: "We want patients to become consumers again. We want patients to see what the actual prices are. We believe that if we would add the price tags to this bill, that it would save the country a trillion dollars a year."
