There was a thing in the Anne Rice Reddit where some young people were showing up and pretending that made-up quotes were quotes from the books, and they were genuinely astonished at the idea that people who have read them would immediately recognize that they weren't from the books.
Just apropos of several things going on on this site, I don’t want to be see mean or judgy (this isn’t a value judgement, to be clear), but I really feel like a lot of people are functionally illiterate. This goes beyond reading comprehension issues.

While I normally focus on AI deepfake pornography, there's an under-discussed AI-gen harm that's particularly prevalent during the holidays: AI product scams.

We counted down the top 10 holiday scams to look out for this year (check out the video), but here are some extra highlights below

Reporter: We have 3 videos, 2 breathalyzers, 4 bartenders, and a minivan full of nuns attesting to how the driver was drunk and reckless when he hit the school bus.

Weiss; What did the driver say.

Reporter: He and his lawyer won’t talk. We asked them 5 times.

Weiss: I’m killing your story.

This is the one cool trick of the grievance right. Harass academics in the name of free speech. Preferences for white people in the name of intellectual diversity. etc
The most impressive thing about Bari is her ability to violate ethical principles while indignantly claiming to defend them.
Weiss concluded: “We need to be able to make every effort to get the principals on the record and on camera. To me, our viewers come first, not a listing schedule or anything else. And that is my North Star, and I hope it's the North Star of every person in this newsroom.”

Worth noting, I guess, that inside of a year we've gone from administration officials taking selfies of themselves at CECOT and bragging about how it's hell on earth to now getting their horrible little media worms to kill stories about it

Alfonsi being the reporter whose story Weiss respectfully killed while refusing to even speak with her
During today's editorial call, Bari Weiss doubled down on pulling the CECOT segment while lashing out at Sharyn Alfonsi:

"The only newsroom that I'm interested in running is one where we are able to have contentious disagreements about the thorniest and editorial matters, and do so with respect."

Already unacceptable to use LLMs to draft filings and even worse, if you do, not to have checked the citations. But if you ARE going to do that, why of all LLMs out there would you use *GROK*?
An attorney couldn't stop using Grok (?!) to help draft filings, producing "a flood of tainted filings" & apparently triggering the implosion of a law firm & 3 lawyers' careers 🤖😵 The court called her misconduct "particularly egregious & prolific"
