Some weird lady out there. Eclectic mix of crap. Gay. Currently on my vampire bullshit. Volcano Twitter before it was cool 🌋
The Anne Rice celebration of life video is now online, and probably of at most marginal interest to most, but skip to the hour and twenty minute mark to hear her son speak. Interesting stuff! annerice.com/COL.html

I find this sort of messaging so much better than insisting that the USA is somehow poor in aggregate.
In the richest city in the richest country on the planet, the thing we can’t afford is to forget those who are left hungry.

I think Biden was good and Trump will be bad! Let's all sit back and see how that stance ages!

This is a pretty serious misunderstanding of horses. Riding and sport horses do this, carriage horses do not.
Cars are super dangerous but they also don’t tend to spook and fling you into a canyon when they see a plastic bag

Get any child in your life a subscription to ZOOBOOKS this holiday season. They keep them updated, they're very scientifically accurate, and even you will learn something if you get a chance to read them too.

The perfect gift is cheap, useful, simple to acquire and impossible to give. It's an enema bulb. Someday your good friend is going to be constipated in a crazy way, and it's an elegant solution. But you know you're not going to give somebody an enema bulb. But so many people don't have one!

this is getting some traction on the other place, but might as well bring it over here

Correct. People think about purchasing a truck in terms of whether or not they are literally allowed to do it . The matter of how much money they will owe, when they owe it, the total amount, these are just not things that they are concerned about. They want it and if allowed will say yes to it.
one sign of how car brained americans are is that most people, in my experience, simply do not think about these purchases in financial terms

There's no way to unfuck how fucked it is for us that this guy was a refugee from Afghanistan. Sorry! This really sucks for those of us trying to fight right wing sentiment on these issues.

As a civil (and not religious) holiday, Thanksgiving opens the door to a lot of new Americans to be able to participate in a broader America in their own way. No other public holiday comes close to the assimilating force of Thanksgiving

Not that weird. Perhaps the gregarious form of the human, as the locust is to the grasshopper. Genetically the same species, but different behavior (and physiology!) based on density.
Pointed out by my friend @carloshasanax.bsky.social . There's something weird and unsettling about a fairly homogeneous culture spread out across Europe that then collapses into an orgy of genocide.

And the Irish shit is basically bs
On the surface, Eurozone growth looks pretty decent all things considered. But when looking under the hood, the picture worsens considerably:

- Ireland (4% of the EZ) accounts for 40% of growth
- Spain (10%) accounts for 20%
- Half of the Eurozone is growing at 0.5% or below

They always add new regulations about showing the total interest paid and stuff because the people who draft that legislation think it'll change people's behavior but it really doesn't. It's fine and good to have those regs but we shouldn't expect it'll change things.
one of the least sympathetic microgenres of post is, "I financed an extremely expensive truck at fairly normal APRs and am paying HOW MUCH in interest?!"

my uncle is broke as shit in his 60s in large part from making this exact sort of decision multiple times

I think it's because half the time *we* treat it as something to be embarrassed about
i think that the Dems have *never* registered as a party who affirmatively rewards people with greater prosperity in either of our lifetimes, *despite the case that they consistently have done so, over both of our lifetimes*, and the abyss between episteme and reality here is exactly Will's point

Meanwhile, some of the most frustrating things about JRR tolkiens work is how morally consistent they are
Certain pieces of media are built on the latter. Call of Duty and Harry Potter fundamentally do not work, from an artistic perspective, if you don't somehow think extrajudicial murder, cruelty and bigotry are morally neutral acts
One of the biggest shocks of my adult life was realizing there's a hidden division in society between people who think certain acts - cruelty, torture, murder - are inherently wrong, versus the majority of people who think there are no wrong actions, just incorrect targets.

I don't actually get the sense that Tyler likes Will, but Will is getting his name out there and that's better than any of us are doing really. Politics is name recognition and Will's becoming a known quantity.
A racist TV show made with the assistance of Sora has attracted millions of viewers. Tyler Austin Harper argues that it could be “the harbinger of a new entertainment landscape where extremist AI shows will jockey for our attention with more anodyne ones”:
