Literally having trouble thinking of an institutional sector — journalism, education, government, health care — that ISNT being run by people who actively hate the work it does
Bari Weiss is the logical endpoint of corporate media. This is what happens when people who hate journalism are in charge of it. The only way journalism works is when it’s independent from the power it’s supposed to hold to account, which means ownership can’t have anything to do with those in power

The unfolding Bari Weiss scandal is yet another example that we’re living through the Golden Age of people who don’t know shit trying and failing to do things that require people to know shit.

I have never, once in my career, heard of a news org responding to a decline-to-comment with, “Well, we’ll hold it until you do.”

The reason is obvious — it gives the subject of your story a pocket veto.

If you're a staffer at 60 Minutes who worked on that CECOT segment that got yanked by Bari Weiss at the last minute, figure out a way to leak it. Not saying it's an easy decision or there won't be consequences, but ask yourself why you got into journalism in the first place.

The “America” they want to bring back again is literally pre-1860s, complete with the old-timey racism, misogyny, diseases, and GDP. Expect the quality of life to follow.
Brilliant from @adamserwer.bsky.social: the Roberts Court's attack on the Reconstruction Amendments are "consistent with the Antebellum Constitution’s narrow definition of who “We the People” are."

Here are some legal historians exploring the Antebellum Const.

In exchange for returning all funding to USAID, I'm willing to teach the DOJ how the Streisand Effect works.
Haven't these people heard of Streisand effect
WASHINGTON (AP) — At least 16 files from Epstein release disappeared from DOJ webpage, including photo of Trump, with no explanation.

I sometimes struggle to direct my anger at harmful beliefs away from those who hold or repeat them, because I know that not that long ago, I was one of them, and I don't think I've fully forgiven myself for it.

Much of the cardboard and paper goods strewn about our homes are sold by a single private company, with its name, Uline, stamped on the bottom.

Many may not know that a multibillion-dollar fortune made on those ubiquitous products fuels far-right candidates across the country.

That Cardboard Box in Your Home Is Fueling Election Denial
A previously unreported boom in profits for the shipping supply giant Uline has provided the funds for a deeply conservative Midwestern family to bankroll anti-democracy causes around the country.

Today is the deadline to release the Epstein files. The DOJ is refusing to comply.

This is about justice for survivors and holding participants and co-conspirators accountable.

The Epstein Files Act is the law, not a suggestion.

Release the files. Immediately.

The Urbanist camp (and I consider myself a member), gets real uppity about this debate in a way that bleeds into categorical pronouncements because for the vast majority of the US, urbanism is prohibit by law. So the urbanist preference (to the extent it exists -- and it does for many!) can't exist

Despite legacy media coverage suggesting otherwise, Republicans are completely aligned with Trump’s campaign to restrict mail voting. They are actively working to limit access and eliminate measures like grace periods, essentially driving a death to mail voting.
