O is for Owl Service from my linocut #folkhorroralphabet inspired by the 1967 novel by Alan Garner which he adapted from Welsh folklore. There’s a television series from 1969 which holds up surprisingly well.

And lo, the ox and the ass did gaze upon the Holy Child and the ass did say “That’s a very snazzy onesie he’s got on, looks like the Lord’s going to be a trendsetter,” and the heavenly host sang on high “All praise to Boden and their Black Friday offers!”

This is absolutely the type of hard hitting reporting I want to see in my local news. Dive deep. Tell us everything.
Walter de Staplecat, Simpkin IV, Teabag, Balthasar and Benny D Cat take the stage as we meet the college cats of Oxford. And, of course, Magdalen’s Ozymandias. Read on for our photo special. (Includes a cat map.) oxfordclarion.uk/college-cats...
College cats of Oxford
Once upon a time, we featured an image of Magdalen's kitten, Ozymandias, in our newsletter. We figured it might be a gentle contrast to our regular diet of planning and local politics. The grey ball ...

BLOG POST: An attempt to put into words my *feelings* about generative AI and why (a) I don't like being tricked into consuming it and (b) I just don't care about things that are made using it.

AI farts stink up your art
Purely as a matter of aesthetics, on an emotional, instinctive level, I reject the use of generative AI in the creative arts. When people were playing with Craiyon a few years ago, I found somethin…

It’s a bit funny to me when folks accuse anti-AI artists of “gatekeeping.” My dude, Midjourney charges you $60 a month for images, while real artists remind you that you can make it for free and experience the joy of the process. So who’s really gatekeeping?

I enjoyed finding the dopamine-owl!
My brain’s not well at all today-depression, but I made this photo to try to lift my dark thoughts & have hidden a tiny owl in it. If you find it &/or your brain likes this image maybe let me know below? Connecting with other humans is another way to lift very low mood 🌿

I drew my favourite book, Tam Lin by Pamela Dean, including elements of the story like yarrow and lavender plants, books flying out the window, the bust of Schiller, the tunnels, and the main character Janet.

This has warmed the cockles of my heart!
We lived in a pub when I was growing up and when I was 3 (50 years ago!) we had someone in to draw the pub for a business card. I sat next to him and watched him draw every line. I was transfixed and it was a huge inspiration for me. I’ve dreamt about owning that drawing for years…
