just incredible optics here, the president yelling at you about how you should buy less and like it, three weeks before christmas, while standing in front of a bunch of stupefied moronic dipshits holding BIGGER PAYCHECKS signs
Trump: "You can give up certain products. You could give up pencils. Because under the China policy, every child can get 37 pencils. They only need 1 or 2. They don't need that many. You always need steel. You don't need 37 dolls for your daughter. 2 or 3 is nice. So we're doing things right."

Every part of this is bonkers. The intro is bonkers. The transition to his health is bonkers. The mention that other presidents didn't need cognitive exams is bonkers. The claim that this screening test is somehow hard is bonkers. The idea that criticism of him is treason is bonkers. All of it.

i think all the time about how trump is one of the most singular, atypical people in america, whose entire life experience, going back at least him as a teenager, is so profoundly different from and unrelatable to almost anyone, including his own social class peers
something you have to understand about Trump & his weird comments about the economy is that the dude hasn't paid for anything like a normal person in decades - never pumps gas, never buys groceries - so he's completely & utterly out of touch with what life is like for most of us

The thing I have found about my current job is that there is no piece of learning I do not use. It's not just about facts (although those, too).

Learning to do proofs taught me patience with material and the skill of banging my head against a brick wall.

(boosting this since it makes GOP-majority motions panels even less remarkable)
Ironically, he is doing something to make the probability of a GOP-majority motions panel more likely: The chief judge can opt out of motion panel service, which he has done. That makes the pool for motions panels 6D-4R.

There are seven Dems and four GOP (three Trump) on the DC Cir. The chance of pulling a GOP majority on a three-judge panel (including this monthly motions panel) on a pure random draw would be 27.9%. It's not that improbable and doesn't require any lotto-rigging conspiracy in the clerk's office.
This seems like it’s been happening for months and I don’t understand it either. I know lawyers are very bad at math but the odds of drawing these two judges in panel after panel are very low. What’s going on?
Can someone please explain to me how the hell Katsas and Rao are on every single fucking major decision in the DC Circuit upholding Trump admin policy. This is absolutely insane.

there is no available evidence that donald trump understands what a tariff is, what a trade deficit is, and what the national debt is.
The way Trump talks about the problems he caused by unilaterally imposing tariffs is fairly insane, even by his standards.

Being a parent is such an embodied experience. You read, and you talk to people, and all that, and it's all useful, even essential, but you learn how to be a parent most of all by being physically present with, engaged with, connected to, your kid.

You, as a person. With your specific kid.

I remember there was an era there where a lot of authors (myself included) who were pulling their punches based on the loudest people on twitter.
I regret doing that now, obviously, and I’m very happy to see the death of whatever the hell that was.
Here’s why you shouldn’t pull your punches as a writer:

A big part of the appeal of a book is how dedicated the author is to their idea.

That crackling energy only comes from compulsion, the true driver of creativity.

Restrain it at your own peril.

My only takeaway from this is Sam isn't really raising his own kid.

Even if everything in chat GPT was accurate (which it's not) there's a lot of trial and error in dealing with a newborn and figuring out what works for that specific kid.
