For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.

And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.”

Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.

They don't have capacity to terrorize more than 2-3 cities at a time.

Which means they rotate teams to new cities without relief.

Which means consistent resistance by fresh activists in each new city will break them over time.

Which means if you're city's not occupied, rest up and get ready.

1.) Dramatically smaller, like dramatically. The equivalent of ICE/CBP to something like the Stazi would be like 15 million people.

2.) They can't operate in the shadows. Everything they do is filmed and disseminated immediately.

The left better start figuring out how to weaponize today's decision rather than just (rightfully) criticizing it.

- Go back into Judge Kaczmaryk's court to dissolve all of his nationwide orders.

- Pass gun bans and insist any order applies only to plaintiffs.

Your tax dollars pay for just about everything a police department does, which includes generating tons of reports, dispatch logs, and video recordings. Any citizen is entitled to see those public records to understand how the government works.

Really good point. These are cuts to research into cures for cancer and Alzheimer’s.

And Trump is doing them to corrupt universities and end free speech and free thought. They want to force in conservative ideas that have lost in a free marketplace, and use cancer money to do that
I do wish big-time media orgs would stop taking the bait of calling these cuts to "Brown" or "Harvard." These are cuts to alzheimers research, maternal health research, antiviral coronavirus innovations, not "insert school here." They are cuts to our medical future and scientific livelihood.
