the magic of the Muppets is that there are two fourth walls. they constantly break the one that reminds the audience they are performers. they NEVER break the one that reminds the audience they are puppets. this dynamic is the key to their entire comedy style
MY KIDS: so why are there muppets in the AUDIENCE

ME: THE CONCEIT!! IS THAT THEY'RE PUTTING ON A VARIETY SHOW!!! IN A WORLD WHERE MUPPET AND HUMAN COEXIST!!! YOU ARE WATCHING A DOCUMENTARY!! FILMED!! IN REAL TIME!!!

"Reporter: Do any of you have a favorite animal?

Child: My favorite one is a gold snake that can move. It has gold eyes, and it has a super-duper tail…

Reporter: Mr. Mamdani, the second question for you.

Mamdani: Yes. It’s also the golden snake."

The only time I ever want my fashion choices to start conversations is when I'm in medical appointments and have strategically done fancy nail art in order to avoid worse small-talk.
so much clothing is marketed as "conversation starters" but as an introvert, i want "conversation enders." no more talking. let me go home.

Remember, sneering works. It’s working now. That’s why the lowliest AI fan and the CEO of Microsoft are trying to get us to stop saying “slop.”

AI art is supposed to be its flashy flagship and treating it as disposable rubbish (which it is) ruins everything

This dynamic is hugely important. The lie *manufactures a precedent* for what is otherwise an unprecedented (& previously unthinkable) series of violations of the American constitutional system. Baselessly accusing the opposition of your own crimes creates a permission structure for them.
Every accusation is both a confession and a rationalization. Imaginary weaponization of government is the excuse to actual weaponize government. Imaginary election rigging is the excuse to actually rig elections.
Trump’s claims about non-citizen voting are bullshit.

They are simply a pretext to undermine public confidence in the legitimacy of election outcomes, unless they align with Trump’s personal, self-serving desires.

His claims are also provably false, w/ hard data. 👇

Ascent in elite circles is typically a selection process for maintenance of some pretty fucked norms.

this selection was disrupted, by demands for diversity, equity and inclusion and the inclusion of more marginalized people, and we are living through the backlash

*sigh* here we go again. Your phone is not listening to everything around you 24/7 for advertising purposes. *If* you have voice activation on for the assistant, the mic is listening for the activation phrase: the processing power for listening for a single specific phrase is much lower.
Do you remember when people were saying "I think my phone is listening to me, i'm getting ads for stuff I spoke about" and people said "They arent listening to you, they're just this good at predicting your interests"?

Well, it happens they were doing exactly that.

agents of the state wearing gaiters ≠ protecting yourself and your neighbors. the distinctions matter, just as preventing infection does.
joining the chorus of folks asking for care with language re: ICE covering faces—yes, they use nonmedical face coverings, meanwhile, the right has been&continues to be against mask/respirator use to protect oneself &others to the extent of bans—we must make the distinction AND normalize medical use.
resist mainstreaming the far right & their ideals with choices you make every day—an easy one is to wear a respirator in, at the very least, public indoor spaces.

needless spread of novel & thought-to-be-gone pathogens has been key to the eugenicists playbook. prevent it.

Well, this is disgusting on multiple levels.

I appreciate Redmond explicitly quoting Uber's intention of destroying public transit, and also noting that "none of the existing cab companies, like Yellow and Flywheel, which both have apps just like Uber, are on the BART app."
