IMO the amount of privacy people are eligible for should be inversely proportional to their level of wealth:
The ultrawealthy live lives in which literally the only human beings they ever come in contact with are either other rich freaks or people who are being paid to serve them.

Of course that turns them into sociopaths. How could it not?

The Ultrarich Are Spending a Fortune to Live in Extreme Privacy
In Miami and elsewhere, the wealthy are moving in increasingly private spheres, shelling out big money to bypass the indignities of public life.

Can't think of any for myself at the moment, but my mom could probably name a few... she generally dislikes a certain set of aughties comedy bros like Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller
What actor are you so (rationally or not) repulsed by that their work, no matter how good, is unwatchable to you?

This is why New Hampshire going first is important, because we have experience throwing off the narratives that national political media try to manufacture:
I think Gavin is a force in the primary because he has the donor base to be competitive nationally.

I think political media is very eager to crown favorites and they've been wrong more than they've been right.
J-MART, on Newsom:

“.. Ask yourself: How many other potential candidates .. can transcend the political-pop culture divide ..?

“.. there may not be a modern political figure who was simultaneously so well-positioned to be his party’s nominee ..”

It's almost like...and I realize this may sound crazy, but stick with me...if there was a system in place that required people with a lot of money to turn over a percentage of that to be used for the greater good everyone might benefit. 🤔

You can release people from prison. You can't un-shoot them. Prisons are infinitely less unjust than the death sentence or extrajudicial murder simply because there is zero recourse for being dead.
"What about [form of abuse that is mostly de facto decriminalised right now anyway]?"

I didn't say abolish bullets, did I?

It's possible to link the two, IMO. Stuff is expensive because rich people are spending all their money doing crimes rather than investing it in producing stuff people might actually want to buy.
The usual suspects are telling Dems that Epstein won’t win elections, get back to “affordability” and I think my head might explode. www.offmessage.net/p/force-a-re...
Force A Referendum On The Epstein Coverup
It divides Republicans much more than "affordability" or any other economic issue.

PBS NEWS WEEKEND has been cancelled and 34 jobs will be cut at WETA in Washington D.C.

The NEWS HOUR West Coast bureau will also close and the updated daily West Coast broadcast will end.

“We cannot fully compensate for the scope of the federal funding loss.”

Serious question: has this been studied? @jenniferdoleac.bsky.social @johnpfaff.bsky.social
I’m being glib but I’m semi-serious about this: send more white collar criminals to prison; prison conditions will improve
I‘m tired of being nice about this; “abolitionism” has had years to develop a non-idiot policy program and the best they’ve come up with is ”murder without even the pretense of juridical process.” And I am not nut-picking; this is all over abolitionist writing.

Multiple things I believe simultaneously:
- Sarah Kendzior is a valuable voice against fascism and is generally worth following
- She did in fact break the TOS, and deserved her 3-day suspension
- I'm generally happy she's back now
- She's also overreacting a bit to her suspension
- But that's ok

I have many (many) issues with bluesky moderation but “why does bluesky not suspend the official accounts of this extremely online administration that loves to abuse its power to prosecute people it doesn’t like” - even when they very obviously break the rules - has an equally obvious answer

This also results in:

- Higher prices as wealthier residents drive up demand while population density drops
- Loss of local retail due to fewer
nearby customers which ALSO leads to higher prices/service deserts
- Public education gets kneecapped because affluent households withdraw support
one of my "counterintuitive facts that explains everything" facts is that without new construction cities get less dense as they gentrify, bc wealthier households have fewer kids and fewer people per bedroom
Almost everywhere in the City of Toronto has fewer people that it did 50 years ago

My decision to call out @shaheen.senate.gov was deeply personal. I suffered a severe spinal injury at age 15, and I will live with chronic nerve pain for the rest of my life as a result. When she caved on a vote that impacts people with disabilities like me, I couldn't stay silent. #NHPolitics #NH01
One of the saddest things in #NHPolitics is seeing how willing Dem party leadership that has passed its expiration date is to eat its young, live in the past, and bargain away values they keep telling us they share. But at a minimum of $150/ticket, this is what you get. www.wmur.com/article/sen-...
Sen. Shaheen fires back at heckler who calls out her government shutdown vote
"You look at our record, and you tell me what you've done to protect the healthcare of Americans, and it's not even close to what we've done," Sen. Shaheen said.
