An easy way to explain luddites:

Textile manufacturers brought in machines that could do in an hour what would have taken 12 hours by hand.

And then, tried to keep paying the now 12x more productive workers the same wages as before.

That's it, that was the problem luddites had. Not complex.

Trump 2.0, above all else, is characterized by a syndrome in which the regime's leaders are compelled by their own character defects and/or crazed ideological beliefs to commit crimes that leave even deeply jaded, cynical partisans for their side aghast and concerned for their own wellbeing.
Shift from “there may be some classified or legal framework that could potentially be a viable excuse for the use of force if it won in court” to “oh this is the Ur war crime, like so clearly a war crime that there is no legal cover for this specific order”.

The milkshake duck moment for actual fascists tends to be pretty funny, in my experience.
I like how every six months or so we get a big "This Obscure Fasicst Thinker Is Key To Understanding The Modern Right" and without fail every one of those is the biggest loser you've ever heard of writing the stupidest articles you've ever read for Racism Monthly

This will probably get me yelled at, because I can see the consensus forming here that "strong floors, no ceiling" is the dumbest of all possible slogans. I would argue that it's actually not that bad, but that it's wrong for this moment (please read 🧵before yelling at me)...

What's delightful, though, is that if the next President is a little more ballsy than Biden, he can re-sign us with the ICC at the Hague at 1:01 PM on Inauguration Day, have Noem and Hagueseth picked up immed., and see them in the Hague by the next morning! It won't matter that he has a U.S. pardon.
I would much rather see the man in prison for a long long time but I don't know how things will work out, as I fear that Donald Trump will (arguably quite rationally) make a point of pardoning everyone on his way out. What Pete Hegseth does is out of my hands in any case I suppose

There is exactly one situation where this is acceptable. If you have proper subtitles for the Norwegians at the start of the film, it spoils the big first act reveal of The Thing because they explain the whole plot, ruining all the tension.

Funny what happens when a society tries to memory hole a pandemic and everyone gets burnout, instead of treating it as a mass trauma event.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

This is unbecoming of a mayor to be honest. He should not be doing photo ops with “Catholic” Charities he should be doing actual New York mayor elect work like further militarizing the police in Queen or getting blackmailed by Tom Homan on live tv

elon fucking killed a major piece of not only driving game discussion, but also sheer inherent word-of-mouth advertising. it has no doubt kneecapped many small- and mid-sized titles and i can't even tell what big games are popping off right now unless they have a Little Guy people wanna doodle
In a post-Share button world, it's been very hard to tell what games are actually hitting. It takes effort to post clips or fan art.

That new Digimon game has some fan art.
Death Stranding 2? Very few clips
Yotei? A little here
Kirby? You would think it's the biggest game in the world right now

So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time..."

somebody on here suggested awhile back that a pretty compelling 2028 Democrat campaign promise would be "on day one I will deploy a WPA-scale army of forensic accountants across every square inch of the federal government" and I think about that every day
It’s crazy to think about the crimes we’re going to learn about after this regime ends.

We’re already hearing about Watergate level crimes every week. Imagine what will come out after it’s over.

We’re going to need a full accounting of all that’s been done in violation of the constitution.
