The Edmund Fitzgerald Is Inspiring Jim Harbaugh And Michigan Football To Achieve "Lake Mindset" | Defector

Sitting in a waiting room listening to two people in their 70s talking about how they used to have to buy chickens and kill them at home if they wanted meat. Just going forever on this. And then one of them said “life was simpler then.” It sounds like it wasn’t!

Sarah Schulman on “feeling safe,” from Conflict Is Not Abuse:
“It is used by the dominant to defend against the discomfort of hearing other people’s realities, to repress nuance, ignore multiple experiences, and reject the inherent human right to be heard.”
“It is used by the dominant to defend against the discomfort of hearing other people’s realities, to repress nuance, ignore multiple experiences, and reject the inherent human right to be heard.”
One thing the NYC mayoral race underscored for me is how easily the phrase "I don't feel safe" can be weaponized. It's an argument I would hesitate ever to use again, even for a good cause. I hope we can all agree that we have the right to BE safe. Maybe we should leave it at that.

Hamilton is such a tremendous and beautiful human being
In Mexico, I asked Lewis Hamilton about what pet ownership taught him about himself. A simple question... but one with a LOT of baggage in the #F1 paddock.
This is your sign to ask your questions, no matter what others think.

This is what I hear over and over again from people in Astoria who know Zohran. And he was only a state rep in the first place because he primaried a moderate dem in a seat that should not have been moderate. Lay the groundwork and anything can happen!
All I’m saying is the guy means what he says and does what he means. And a lot of people have put in work organizing for this moment for years and years.

Can not stress enough how cartoonishly perfect of a day it is in NYC today. A comfortable 65 degrees. No cloud in the sky. Most golden light you have ever seen. It’s like the city is on a soundstage. You would call it corny if you saw it in a movie’s ending.

Zohran Mamdani polled +40% on men under 30. So we wasted all that time on all those think pieces about how we need a Joe Rogan for the left, when what we actually needed were *policies* for the left.

This NYT story about how Mamdani dealt with the opposition by the city's elites fails to mention one particular elite institution: The NYT editorial page, which last June railed against him as "uniquely unsuited to the city’s challenges... lacks political savvy"
