Trying something out. This is me describing what surprised me about Naked Lunch. It's a clip from episode 2 of Right Where You Are Sitting Now, my podcast series on William Burroughs. Years ago, my colleagues at Business Insider and I tracked YouTuber “cancellation” arcs. What we found is that for many entertainers, “cancellation” actually sets the stage for a redemption arc, one that can raise their profile higher than ever. It wasn’t career-ending. It was fuel.

taste by algorithm is bad, yes, but I'm not sure that browsing post, essentially a homily for what used to be called the "50 quid bloke", merits the gravity I'm seeing afforded to it. It seems to assume physical bookshops are neutral zones where every book is stocked and marketing can not take place

JK Rowling got a full *decade* of press as a martyr for being "cancelled" (declared passe by people online) and meanwhile nobody considers it very interesting that a prominent left wing author is basically banned from entering or publishing in the United Kingdom for her politics
so this is like, one of the biggest free speech infringements by a western democracy in our lifetimes right?

bsky.app/profile/noch... tragic addendum to this: lots of great recommendations but unfortunately I also threw in Sol Cesto out of curiosity, stuck in on to try it and it dragged me in the Balatro zone immediately. if they ever put this on mobile my life is over.
in light of the steam sale: please tell me games that are worth playing that are like x-com 2 and midnight suns. I want turn based squad combat with an absolute minimum of plot/talking. I know there's a lot of that in midnight suns but I powered through for secret reasons (started adhd meds again)

The only time I'm reminded of the age difference between my wife and I is when the 2000s Dublin hardcore chip in her head occasionally reactivates. She knows far more about music than I ever will but I played her Deafheaven and Portrayal of Guilt yesterday and she insisted both were "just screamo".

One of the best pod episodes you'll hear about Alan Moore's Providence. As well as the inventor of Racism 2.0™ H.P. Lovecraft.

If you like that (I can't see why you wouldn't) then sign up for Kid Podcast's Patreon, it's the best 5 quid a month you can spend.
Join me and, eventually, @ckunzelman.bsky.social for the new episode of SFULTRA, the antagonistic SF podcast most favoured by formless spawn who dwell in N'kai, 'neath the ruins of Yoth. After some general Lovecraft thoughts, focus settles on Alan Moore's Providence. www.patreon.com/posts/sfultr...

bsky.app/profile/bart... Over the years, a handful of people have admitted they listen to my podcast at 2x speed. A chilling prospect, considering the show has been described more than once as "Bernhardian". Can only assume it feels like shooting yourself with the havana syndrome ray.
Thought "Fuckin hell @nochorus.bsky.social is hepped up for this one" on the latest SFUltra before I realised I'd been accidentally listening on 1.25 speed for the last ten minutes.

variety.com/2025/film/ne... rip udo kier, truly wild filmography. Often think of the moment he turns up like 3 hours into the making of doc of rob zombie's halloween and starts doing extremely disruptive bits to make malcom mclaren laugh.

bsky.app/profile/crai... no interest in some guy who doesn't get About A Girl pretending he was there when Dale was on drums but god, that opening..."He's what I imagine I maybe did"? Intriguing! maybe if you drank from the hose a little less you'd know for certain. At least have the decency to lie!
As someone who is this guy's age I can tell you 100% that if you were into Pixies, Nirvana, 120 Minutes stuff, etc. but didn't like the Beatles you had to have worked hard to contort yourself into that special little box. Your enemy, if you absolutely needed one, was hair metal. GTFO here with this.

Joe Budden saying "people get Marc fucked up, just because they see him up there...with Pierce Brosnan and them" gave me insight into what it's like when I fuck up someone's name in the weirdest way possible while trying to be serious (he meant Piers Morgan). Sadly I have to admit: yes, it is funny.

bsky.app/profile/recu... it's not a career but, occasional writing aside, the only thing I do that makes money rn is the podcast. There are tapes of me doing a functional identical show, talking bollocks to myself, when I was 6. After doing this on and off for 30ish years, I tried charging for it.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?
