This is why you can’t have just a little bit of secret police on the side, as a treat. Abolish DHS or abolish democracy
I understand the incredulity. The problem is that you have to go through TSA on all domestic flights and TSA is DHS and when they scan your ID they see all the DHS records.

This is a really sick story.

From everything I know, Boston’s Logan Airport is a legitimately dangerous place to travel through.

Not the first case of ICE or CBP refusing to accept tribal ID or threatening to deport [sic] native americans 🤬🤬🤬
Miles, an Indigenous actor best known for her roles in “Northern Exposure,” “Smoke Signals,” “Wyvern” and “The Last of Us,” handed them her tribal ID from the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Oregon.

Yet, Miles recalled one agent calling it “fake.”
‘Northern Exposure’ actor gave ICE agents in Redmond her tribal ID. They called it ‘fake,’ she says
Indigenous actor Elaine Miles of "Northern Exposure" was detained by ICE at a Redmond bus stop. When she showed them her Tribal ID, they told her it was fake.

Awful. Trump admin is deporting a 23-year-old NC woman who came here at the age of 14 as an unaccompanied minor. Her father was murdered and mother died of cancer. All she has are two traffic citations, per this report from Charlotte Observer's Dan Kane:

Why do so many feel like they've fallen behind?

It's not because of immigrants, trans people, DEI, the “deep state,” or any other bogeyman trotted out by the GOP.

It's because big corporations and billionaires have rigged markets and siphoned off most of the economy's gains.

ICE is arresting husbands & wives at their final green card interviews

They’re going to the immigration meeting to complete the final step in the legal process and leaving in handcuffs

One man had to take his crying infant from his wife’s arms as ICE forcibly detained her

This is cruel entrapment

I love glimpses into history like this where we’re reminded that the juridical entity known as the “Republican Party” once was a vehicle of antiracism and socialism. But we don’t have to pretend the recycled party infrastructure now used by the right has anything to do with this.
How Republicans commemorated Thanksgiving in 1869--with a multi-racial/multi-ethnic gathering of people at a table with a centerpiece celebrating universal suffrage and self-government, and with an engraving of Castle Garden, the pre-Ellis Island point of disembarkation for immigrants.

I think for people who like their religion and its obligations compartmentalized from their attitudes toward and relationships with others, both fellow Christians and not, this is naturally bothersome. “Can’t I just thank God without all that pesky ‘brothers and sisters’ fraternity woo woo stuff?”

I think I am beginning to put my finger on the inchoate reason trads and cons get triggered by orations like in this proper. I think it’s the fact that gratitude and nature’s gifts are directed teleologically toward awareness of our relationship with fellow human beings as brothers and sisters

I feel much safer today knowing that we deported a Babson College student back to a country where she hasn't lived since childhood.

She wasn't even flying internationally. She was flying to Texas.
