This is not ending until the regime is removed and their masked death squads are abolished. Everyone involved must face criminal charges.

That’s the moderate position.
Big thing to note about ICE is, they’re not going away. If/When they leave Minny, it will be a win, but it may also get reported as if ICE is standing down. They’re not. They’re just going to keep going to different cities and bringing their terror campaign with them. This only ends with abolition.
ICE is changing tactics in Maine: "Now, the volunteers in Maine say federal agents have started showing up at their homes and intimidating them or threatening arrest. Some of them, masked and wearing tactical gear, have issued stark warnings not to follow them." www.pressherald.com/2026/01/23/i...

So keep pushing. Anything short of ICE’s abolition isn’t nearly enough.

And I’d say that even ICE’s abolition should only be the start of ending the violence that came to feel “normal” under Trump.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

Republicans have no place demanding national pride for a country they’ve utterly disrespected and torn asunder by breaking every constitutional vow made to the people of the United States. They took away our ability to be proud a long time ago.

Exactly right.

Bovino's leaving? Great, get Noem to resign.

Noem resigns? Great, defund and dismantle ICE.

Go after Stephen Miller too. Bring charges against ICE thugs at the state and local level. Lawsuits. New state laws restricting them.

Every possible angle.
They are wounded and flailing. Press the advantage.

ICE is violently assaulting peaceful protestors & entering homes without warrants. They shot an innocent mom in the head & used a 5-year-old as bait.

I voted against funding, but that’s not enough. Abolish and dismantle ICE. If you support this shit, you are sick in the head.

Seth Moulton is calling for ICE to be prosecuted in no uncertain terms.

This is becoming a foundational political agreement for anyone seeing to oppose the regime. We need the broadest possible coalition all united about the necessity of caging these fucking monsters.

It is a horrible thing but one of the *points* of non-violence is that state violence in response causes outrage to spread.

The real “domestic terrorists” are in the White House.

The victim, Alex Jeffrey Pretti, was reportedly a law abiding US citizen & an ICU nurse at the VA. He was licensed to carry a firearm.

Trump & Miller are responsible for his killing & are now lying to the American people.
Another brutal killing by Trump’s ICE agents.

Trump, Vance, Noem, Miller, & the whole morally depraved crew have blood on their hands. These killings are happening at their direction. They must be held accountable.

Congress must cut-off funding for these heinous acts NOW!

the regime considers all resistance violent resistance. you chanting while holding a sign and carefully remaining on the sidewalk is as worthy of the death penalty to them as someone throwing a Molotov.
They are telling us in unequivocal terms that if you show solidarity with immigrants who are in the literal crosshairs of Trump/MAGA, you're risking a death sentence.

it's cool that so many people in positions of power and influence were so negatively polarized by "wokeness" that they convinced themselves that there was an actual debate about who wanted to erase history and the "wokes" were on the wrong side bsky.app/profile/arch...

What's striking is that it is so obvious fascism doesn't work, that it is a huge glowing red flag when someone reacts civilly to it.

Like if someone told you that you could cure a cold by drinking bleach, you would not be expected to debate them about this in a civil manner.

Reporters, if you wrote about learning loss due to covid school closures, you can write about learning loss due to state terror.
I am not being snarky. I need my colleagues who wrote on covid school lockdowns to engage with this. To be as loud as they have been about prior "learning loss." Hell, you can cite Tom & Mark's AERJ paper so you feel better that there's some econ somewhere in your argument.

Update:

The admin is moving to quickly deport witnesses who saw ICE detainee die.

They say the man was just trying to get his meds.

ICE guards shackled him

Then they choked him.

The admin moved to deport the witnesses — right after they spoke to WaPo.

End the interview. Ask him why he isn’t resigning. Remind him that NATO is a signed ratified treaty & part of US law. Ask him why he’s so unserious & why he’s endangering our closest alliance. Do your damn job, for G-d’s sake. It’s not a false choice to Americans either.
WELKER: Is Greenland or NATO more vital to natl security?

BESSENT: That's obviously a false choice

W: Not to European leaders

B: They will come around & understand they need to be under the US security umbrella. What would happen in Ukraine if the US pulled support? The whole thing would collapse

So much of how the Trump administration acts can be explained by them being weak and servile bullies who cannot understand any human relationship that is not dominance-subservience. E.g., they foolishly invaded Minneapolis because if someone stronger threatened them, they’d cravenly lick his boot.
Before someone replies and points to all of the exceptions and unscrupulous things the US has done, I agree. It was never just idealism and soft power. But that is what differentiated it from prior Empires that depended on coercion. It is what the Trump admin does not understand now.

I think this is specifically and very seriously wrong. The reforms following each of these crises were inadequate, and diminished progressively by the failure to adequately address the previous crisis. That curve continues to Trump, who was convicted of dozens of felonies and then reelected.
