But the Ukrainians are also playing Trump, asking for something that would be really useful but is not critical advances the ball such that the discussion is no longer about weapons/systems that are much more important. Trump is not threatening to slow down delivery of AD missiles.

Trump's statement that Ukraine can win back all it's territory is mostly a message to Putin that Russia should more seriously engage in peace negotiations. It does not mean new US support for Ukraine, but it does signal that Trump will not obstruct Europe's efforts. 1/4

Ukrainians keep hitting Russia’s oil sector, striking 1 refinery and 2 pumping stations this morning alone. Since August, there have been more than 30 hits on refineries and depots. Desertion rates have doubled, and Z-influencers are unhappy.

Russia’s situation will get worse.

No Ukrainian president will ever surrender an inch of Ukrainian soil and President Zelenskyy, expectedly, rebuffed even the notion that this will change, ever. Especially the heavily fortified areas in the northern Donetsk region.

Obviously, this falls far short of what’s needed and is unlikely to dissuade Putin from his current course. That being said, it’s a significant leap from “Zelensky is a dictator who needs to repay billions” to the US selling weapons to Europe for immediate battlefield relief in Ukraine
