This seems to strongly suggest that the incoming president of UVA doctored his CV to the edge of outright dishonesty, and that the most recent changes came months before Jim Ryan was forced, as if they were made in anticipation in Ryan’s removal. augustafreepress.com/news/vanishi...
How UVA’s presidential search missed what took us an hour to find
Inside Higher Ed frames the controversy surrounding Scott C. Beardsley's appointment as the University of Virginia's president.

The December Comfort Watches 2025, Day Twenty-Nine: Apollo 13
Apollo 13 is a film that sits atop a small but diverse and, for some people, extremely enjoyable sub-genre of film: Competence Porn. This has nothing to do with actual pornography (well, I guess it…

Sure hope Lucky Jack Aubrey made it off HMS Surprise. And the ship's surgeon, Dr. Maturin, what of him?
HMS Surprise went to assist HMS Torrent, and was manoeuvring to pick up survivors immediately after the latter had sunk when, just after 3:20am, she hit two mines in quick succession. Following the second explosion she broke apart and sank very rapidly, with 54 of her 103 men lost. [3/4]

Orcl was less than half its current value on the day Chatgpt released (opened at 80$, today is 198). Presume it drops to lower than it started if AI goes to zero- he's still got billions, probably. Exactly how much he's borrowed against his stock- and what the terms are- is going to be not public.
How vulnerable is the Ellison’s ownership of CBS Paramount & TikTok to an AI bubble burst? If there’s an AI collapse could it make them need cash & force them to sell? Or do they just have so much money it doesn’t matter?

We used to call this "dartboard theology" when JRPGs did this back in the 1990s. Okay, so that villain's henchman is ... Tiamat! And their underlings are ... Hulijing! And their fighting over the super weapon... Loki! And the fetch quests are named after ... the 12 Apostles.
Yeah like why is the church in Dragon Quest very clearly Catholic from the outfits clergy wear to the design of the buildings? “I dunno it looks cool”. Not like it has anything to say about the church either way other than “well this exists”

I've been the treasurer of a mainline protestant church in the past, and I can assure you we've been champing at the bit to make big IT investments. Blockchain, AI, all of it. We've got so much budget for this stuff.

Everyone please diligently check your candy this year. I cracked open a snickers bar and not only did I find a copper ingot, but it was of poor quality.

Worse still, when my man Nanni confronted my neighbor about it, he was treated with disdain.

Text heavy, but if you're a diehard Star Trek fan it's HILARIOUS! I look around for this thing every few years, and keep thinking I should FRAME it 😂

tldr: Aliens don't understand that the movie "Back to the Future" is a comedy because Doc Brown is how ALL Starfleet Engineers behave

Perhaps this is obvious but perhaps not: both my research work and my public-facing writing would be impossible without the astounding resources of university libraries.

My household also makes ample use of our local public library.

Libraries are amazing.
Destroy this myth. Please share if you have visited and researched in a library this past year! RT And give a shout out to your favorite library you have ever visited.
