Just another Ph.D teaching students how relevant the Roman Empire still is, often in Latin (history rhymes in awful ways). Pseudonym b/c I am contract faculty. Very glad to be (re)connecting with friends here!
Second (I think) Deathly Hallows movie when Hermione (Emma Watson) casts the obliviate spell on her parents and eliminates every memory they ever had of her. Watching her fade from the pictures on the mantle. Gets me as a Mom & in the gut in re the frightening fragility of loves, lives, & memories.
What movie scene will make you cry everytime you see it?
I'll go first.
Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium.
When Mr. Magorium (Dustin Hoffman) explains to Mahoney that he going to die.

Are we still doing diner journalism? Because today at a greasy spoon in Stateline, Nevada, a 65 year old birder named Maryanne told me that she likes that “Mamdonnelly” fellow and thinks that Donald Trump is a pedophile.

I keep thinking I’m seeing images of Bill Belichick when it is really Bolsonaro. even from different angles. Is it just a two pitiful old rich white dudes aging poorly or is there actually a physical resemblance? (There is actually a resemblance).
There was a time when the United States looked down its nose at the countries in South America for being lawless banana republics. Who's the banana republic now, bitches?

BREAKING: new emails CONFIRM my reporting that there are TRAINING VIDEOS instructing FBI personnel on how to review the Epstein Files. Plus, a lot more…
The emails reveal the special training given to FBI personnel working on what it called the “Epstein Transparency Project.” In some instances they referred to it as the “Special Redaction Project.” The training entailed PowerPoint slide presentations and video instruction on how to review the files.

If this is what it looks like, this is a live third amendment issue. The third amendment has always been my favorite amendment, but largely because it never came up.
Idk if I'm right. Here's what I think I'm seeing:

Police are using her lawn as a staging area. She wants them off. The say she's obstructing them and they'll arrest her. She keeps repeating that it's her property and she won't let them on it without a warrant.

They stay!

This is some live-action Third Amendment arguing happening here. I wonder if "quartering" is expandable to include un-warranted seizure of her yard for police staging?

A popemobile once used by Pope Francis has been transformed into a mobile clinic for children in Gaza.

Outfitted with oxygen, vaccines, and medicine, the “Vehicle of Hope” delivers life-saving care — and the legacy of a pope who called Gaza’s parish priest almost every night before his death.
Pope Francis’s Popemobile Reborn as Gaza’s First Mobile Clinic for Kids
One of Pope Francis’s final wishes is hitting the road: a bulletproof popemobile reborn as a field clinic for Gaza’s war-scarred children. Blessed by Francis, it was delivered by Leo.

I’m not necessarily surprised by this, but I am astonished by how pervasive this is and how quickly it has become pervasive.

And now checking on my cookbooks and thinking about lists of trusted sources. If anyone has good ones, I’m happy to help share (lists & resources) & will pass on what I find👍🏽
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.
