POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

Every time I hear/see Vought’s name I think of:
Screen grab from ScreenRant.com. Still image from tv show The Boys.

Image = horizontal. Homelander (character) on left in foreground with cityscape behind. Central building in cityscape behind him is tower with the name Vought in the top of it.

Im not a gun person, but i can’t help but wonder whether castle doctrine applies to cars in states that have both that law and open carry. 🤔

I think that women and minorities could easily make the case or credible fear in the situation Joyce posits. (We’d all be scared, I’m thinking of defenses).

If men with guns and masks tried to pull me out of my car, I'd fight back. Courts should reject any claims by the government that this is aggression by the person being detained, resisting arrest, or that they're a flight risk.

As a result it this 🧵 I now want to open a pub called The Sophistic Pedant. The best part of the pub will be lmao at those who think I meant sophisticated and got it wrong.

As an academic I’m same in re qualifiers. Language is both my biggest strength and weakness b/c of this.

Could Drive up?

really. The potential subjunctive?

How about “have already driven up”—a nice (present) perfect Indicative.

Eric Trump: "We're saving Christianity. We've saving God. We've saving the family unit. We're saving this nation. I mean, DEI is out of the window, Benny. You no longer have Colin Kaepernick kneeling for the national anthem. You no longer have Budweiser going woke as hell. All of this is dead."

Where’s the BG lie? A 13 year old was arrested by ICE and sent to a Virginia detention facility. It happened. Meanwhile, DHS has produced no evidence that a child had a rap sheet and is alleging unverifiable claims to save face.

Every time I see an ad for the “mundus sine caesaribus” t-shirts I want to cosplay John Cleese as Roman centurion in Life of Brian and give a Latin lesson. I can hear Cleese in my head (a world without people named Caesar?).

I should say that we don’t generally do a lot of citation counting as part of merit evaluations in the humanities as much as I understand it to be done in the sciences. I’m familiar with the gratuitous sort and differences in authoring/citarion practices (spouse is MD/PhD).
clavdiaminor.bsky.social
Citations are for providing a road map to others for where to find the wider fabric of the argument as well as for giving credit to sources. I’ve never really heard complaints abt them in my field (humanities) except in rare instances that had more to do w/the researcher & quality of their work. 😬

Off point a bit, but if they are actually transporting anyone in the back part of a moving van they are violating the law (in a way similar to how they complain people come into the country). Wish the local LEOs would enforce at least basic effing traffic violations against these a-holes.

George Stephanopolous did what every anchor and host should have been doing since Bush 2000: Rejecting the bullshit, gaslighting, and rude, evasive filibustering the GOP has perfected to hide their lies.

NO MORE BULLSHIT.

I get that this regime constantly curries favor w/the under/misinformed public via messaging blaming the Democrats for everything, but expecting people to be so stupid as to blame Dems here seems kind of insane b/c it is not only obvious, it makes it obvious how stupid they think citizens are.

Wow. Greg Bovino admits on camera that his agents can detain people if you look scared, change your demeanor, or grip a steering wheel too tight.

As his unmasked agents walk around with large guns to scare you, they may arrest you just for that — even if you're a U.S. citizen.

Trump: "Portland, I mean -- every time I look at that place it's burning down. There are fires all over the place. When a store -- there are very few of them left -- but when a store owner rebuilds a store they build it out of plywood. They don't put up storefronts anymore. They just put wood up."

I don’t know who needs to hear this but the CDC is being eviscerated right now. America is not going to have any kind of outbreak response capacity after tonight. Americans’ health data is no longer secure. Say goodbye to federal public health in any capacity. It’s a disaster. We won’t recover.
