Unlike you, I can read and that’s why I know what the constitution says.
Trump on Ilhan Omar: "I look at somebody who comes from Somalia...and she comes in and tells us how to run our country. 'The Constitution says this, the Constitution says that.' The whole thing is crazy."

This is not what they actually say. This is what they used to say, in the long ago before times when Shaheen learned to do politics. There is no kumbaya median voter anymore. The question you get knocking doors is not "why can't you all just work together?" it's "why didn't / will you fight harder?
Shaheen: "When I talk to my constituents in New Hampshire, you know what they say to me? They say, 'Why can't you all just work together to address the problems that are facing this country?'"

if you genuinely think Schumer and Democratic leadership opposed this & Republicans coincidentally got exactly the number of votes they needed to avoid a filibuster and none of those votes are from Democratic Senators who are up for reelection in the midterms next year, I have a bridge to sell you.

So @schumer.senate.gov really thinks we don’t understand that he orchestrated this by getting senators not up for re-election to vote yes?

We gave them the victories they’ve been asking for and they turned around and gave up as soon as it was convenient. The carrot days of the Democratic base are over. Time for the stick. They’re not afraid enough of us. We can fix that (with votes).

"Democrats could have held the line on the shutdown, and spent weeks watching Trump’s approval ratings fall," writes @jonathanbchait.bsky.social
Instead, he argues, they're making a mistake by giving in:

Schumer needs to resign and Hochul needs to appoint Brad Lander to his seat.
Interesting that NY gov Kathy Hochul felt compelled to put out a statement against Dems' deal to end the shutdown

Look at all the “competitive authoritarianism” and “authoritarian playbook” cases around the world. Nearly everywhere, the “feckless opposition party that fails to meet the moment” is a major character in the story.

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

Sanders: That is a totally meaningless gesture. You can get 100 votes here and it won't mean anything because the House is not going to take it up.

Primary anyone who isn't screaming for new leadership by the morning
Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.

Schumer's fuck up is that he probably thought the sacrificial eight could get things open and everyone else could quietly say no to look principled and everyone would be happy.

Such an absolutely clueless read of the moment. I hope the loud no he didn't anticipate takes him down.
Schumer and Kaine in their infinite wisdom have changed the storyline from "Dems ... actually can win?" to "Democrats shutdown the government and hurt a lot of people for nothing, and Mr. Trump is so strong, sir, the strongest"

Will you be voting for new leadership? Otherwise it's a pointless no. Because we'll never get to something deserving a yes at this rate.

So Dems are 100% gonna do it?
i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

I will say it again, the best part about Prop 50 is that California did it with the power and the confidence of its people.

Texas did it in secret, away from public view and from the orders of the thug rapist in the Oval.

Fair maps for all, until we have a Congress that represents all of us.
