I wrote a book about US media’s complicity in the Gaza genocide. It's available for pre-order. It’s a data-driven and, I hope, thorough account of how center-left media sold the American public on mass death in Gaza.

Out 4/21. 100% of royalties go to @mecaforpeace.bsky.social.
How to Sell a Genocide - Pluto Press

I really feel like this is something Dems could make BFD about. Kelly, while a centrist who isn't my jam, is also recognizably a Good Guy to your average person, a wife guy whose wife survived an assassination attempt, and an astronaut!

I don't know this person's gender, but I have never heard anyone but very aggressively cishet men make the "no bed" argument and....hooray for women's wrongs, I guess?

Yep. My family is dealing with this RIGHT NOW, trying to figure out if they can stay in the state with their queer kids. Also wondering how to manage a public education system that likely will teach their kids harmful and scary bullshit.

And moving is *expensive*.

my left kidney to live in a universe where wolf blitzer would make everybody sit there quietly while he read the actual oath so they can gasp and gulp like fish out of water instead of blithely lying on national television
BLITZER: I want to be precise. Should members of the US military obey clearly illegal orders?

McCLAIN: You're asking an enlisted person for their opinion on what they think is legal. That's a pretty slippery slope. Follow your commander in chief. That's the oath that you took

WWE sex abuse suit raises concerns ahead of Linda McMahon's hearing to run Education Dept.
McMahon is a defendant in a lawsuit accusing her and her husband, Vince, of turning a blind eye to the sexual abuse of minors in WWE.

Friends, data hygiene is the gift you can give yourself. Do not use biometrics to sign into things. Opt out of facial scanning by TSA when you fly. Throw your FitBit into the sun. Smash your Alexa like they did the printer in Office Space. Use a password manager. Wear a mask.

This is spot on — and my biggest fear is that it will become more expensive to learn how to think and a lot cheaper to just use AI. Majoring in the humanities will resurge as a marker of class.
Who invests in critical thinking and who invests in an AI chatbot to help you think will be really telling.

This sweet baby. I think about him all the time, especially now that my nieflings are around his age.
OTD in 2014, police officer Timothy Loehmann killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice—a Black child—in 1.7 seconds as Tamir played in a park.

People often talk about those 1.7 seconds—but forget about the 4 minutes. After Loehmann shot Tamir, he refused to let anyone get near him for 4 agonizing minutes.

answer is great but also it's telling that the guy who's been saying this since day 1 has to answer about whether he's an antisemite for 5 min every interview while the same people grin vacantly at the jewish space lasers lady and call her a brave warrior
WELKER: What is your message to Jewish New Yorkers who feel you won't be tough enough in your response to antisemitism?

MAMDANI: That I am looking forward to being the next mayor and fulfilling the commitment I've made to Jewish New Yorkers to not only protect them but to celebrate and cherish them

This is correct but TBH the journos mostly don't actually understand any of this and can't actually make the distinction in their work
Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

You don’t have to like Nuzzi or approve of her conduct to understand that Lizza’s choice to publish the material that he is publishing is meant to sexually humiliate her in public in retaliation for disappointing him romantically. The term for that is revenge porn.

It's that time of year when Americans set up quaint, walkable Christmas villages in their living rooms, dreaming of living in such a cozy place.

Meanwhile, they'll show up to city council meetings to fiercely oppose any plan that would actually build that kind of car-lite community in real life.

Turns out this was all much ado about nothing and Google isn’t using your Gmail to train AI and if wanna turn all that stuff back on you can get your spam filters back
Looks like the article has been updated to suggest maybe they misread the policy.

I see people complaining that this also disabled their spam filters, though I still see new messages showing up in spam so it's still working fine for me after disabling things.
