I like safe streets, infill housing and trees. Find more ways to say yes. YIMBY, MeFite, Smithie.

People who think that advocates for safe mobility infrastructure are politically powerful need to understand our streets would look very very different if that were in fact true.

1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

The military has a duty to refuse unlawful orders, but Congress has a duty to remove from office a president and secretary who would issue such orders. There is something off about members of Congress talking about the former while refusing to say the latter, the part that's actually their job here.

A reminder that cars aren’t a technology problem. They’re a geometry problem.
Waymo privatized another public street:

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.

Not new, but I am enraged at the fact that Larry Summers’ colleagues have no idea how misogyny works. Imagine it’s your job to teach teen and 20-something women, & you don’t understand how someone who believes that a woman could never be his intellectual equal might treat women badly.

Yep. NYC needs to move beyond paint and plastic to permanent, high-quality materials that are installed quickly.

Rather than continuing New York's quick-build approach to redesigning streets with temporary materials, Zohran Mamdani should aim for permanent.

I will admit to many frailties and flaws. I am far from perfect and have made plenty of mistakes and there are plenty of things I am bad at.

You could not pay me enough to declare that I am incapable of composing my own insults.

The thing I wish people like Carville et al would realize is that you cannot have ‘pure populist economic rage’ if you leave out the ‘woke’ bits. It doesn’t work like that.

It’s weird to me they don’t see this, so let’s see if we can walk it out.

I was told recently that the FBI and DC Metro PD take academy cadets to the Holocaust Museum to punctuate the danger of mindlessly following illegal and immoral orders.

Be curious to know what other agencies do this — and if they’re still doing it.
BLITZER: I want to be precise. Should members of the US military obey clearly illegal orders?

McCLAIN: You're asking an enlisted person for their opinion on what they think is legal. That's a pretty slippery slope. Follow your commander in chief. That's the oath that you took

(Not a no!)

Variety has been showing us for a while they do not have their finger on the pulse of American culture.
The movie listed at #1 is so incredibly misplaced that it calls into question the veracity of the entire list. It belongs on the list, yes, but SO MUCH further down. An absolute, credibility-wrecking flub. Boo, @variety.com! Boo!

When Obama was elected Mitch McConnell brought a new thing into our nation's politics, a sort of weaponized nihilism: he didn't care how much the nation suffered, so long as it hurt Obama. He literally told his caucus that their only goal must be for Obama to be a failed President, at any price.
