Absolute garbage.

Call your reps and tell them NO BODY CAMS, NO TRAINING - ICE CANNOT BE "REFORMED." ICE OUT OF OUR CITIES, THEN DEFUND AND ABOLISH ARE THE ONLY OPTIONS.

Find your reps here: reps.fyi

They are giving ICE *MORE* money with these garbage "reforms." More money to HURT US.

Whoever the Democratic president is in 2029 is going to have the biggest opportunity to remake government in any of our lifetimes.

But only if they have the courage to treat it the way Trump did.

Any attempt to “go back to how things used to be” will send us right back to the far right.

I think about this a lot: the fact that it's "inconceivable" is a HUGE part of the problem. Hey folks: conceive of it. That's the necessary first step. This fascism is in fact happening, and the whole "I can't imagine" part is stopping a lot of progress in overcoming it.
"The Court finds it inconceivable that the Department of Justice, which holds a duty to faithfully execute the
laws of the United States—even those with which it may have disagreement—would repeatedly ignore court orders, while simultaneously prosecuting citizens for breaking the law."

This dynamic is basically unchanged in the decades I've followed US politics. The right raises a bullshit bad-faith objection, Dems try to change policy to address it, the right just repeats the bad-faith objection, Dems try again ... forever.
So in the end, what does this article amount to? Republicans are telling the same lie about welfare that they've told for 40 years despite consistent efforts — including many led by Democrats — to restrict and police it.

And in response, Democrats should restrict and police it even more.

Let's review the facts at hand here: A Democratic administration discovered and prosecuted a case of welfare fraud. Republicans are now using this case to smear hundreds of thousands of immigrants and militarize an entire city.

And your conclusion is that Democrats need to do something different?

If you live in the Cities, an easy way to help immigrant families in hiding is: laundry! Laundromats are ICE magnets, so people without washers need help.

The People’s Laundry will drop off laundry to your door to wash and dry and pick up a few days later:

The problem was not labeling Trump correctly as a fascist. The problem was not treating him as one. They still aren’t! That creates a gap where you’re warning people that things are on fire, but instead of evacuating or getting water, you’re casually sitting down with a cup of tea.
You want to know why Chuck Schumer is talking about affordability & not Trump being a fascist? It's because we already tried talking about him being a fascist *& everyone ignored us*.
A big part of why we are at where we are is that much of the world, the press, foreign leaders, a big hunk of US voters, simply refused to believe it when Democrats said Trump would be as bad as he is.

This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.

Thanks. We have folks in our community giving vulnerable students rides to school, and a teacher shared that they were putting small stuffed animals on their dashboards to help kids identify safe cars. ICE picked up on it and started doing the same. Horrifying.
