The problem is that so many people put “Indie” on the same scalar plane as AA and AAA, when it isn’t. Small games should be Single A or something.

That way indie can actually mean independent, rather than small, low budget, cheap, etc…
The definition of what's an indie has been incredibly broad and muddy for several years now.
"Publisher? Not indie!" Cool you just removed most full time indies.
"Million dollar bugdet? Not indie!" So Silksong isn't indie?
Imo, independent means no creative restraints from external actors/investors
Clair Obscur is getting elevated as an indie because it's pulling off AAA on a smaller-than-AAA budget, not because it fits in the normal indie traits.

Feels like it's getting harder and harder to compete as an indie game dev because even the "indie" games now need to have massive budgets.

Sorry I think using AI for placeholders is also bad
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know you only care about finished art but placeholder art also needs to be made by a human being who also needs to be paid for that

But placeholder midjourney slop cuts that artist out

I hope it's okay to piggyback off this quote-

For a rundown since I've had a lot of ppl asking about my site; I used Wordpress with the Toocheke theme and (will soon be) using BlueHost as the server. It was roughly $220 to get it rolling. I had help from a friend who makes websites.
I know I'm from a different era, but I still think it's comparatively easier to own your comic site than trying to promote yourself on censored platform full of desperate people who treat each other as competitors instead of friends/peers.

Self-promoting + intentional community is the solution, imo
It's definitely difficult getting a separate site going since it feels like you then need to put in even more time to spreading the URL via social media, but holy shit, avoiding censorship restrictions and ads all over the place is so worth it

How about everyone cancel their subscriptions like they did when Kimmel was removed from his late night show? It would probably make a difference like last time.
Disney and OpenAI sign a deal to bring 200+ Disney characters to Sora

Disney makes $1 billion investment in OpenAI and will become a "major" OpenAI customer

i'm speechless...thank you jeff keighly, for awarding Game of The Year to 'of the Devil: Episode 2.' it's a little strange given that it is DLC, and not released yet, but i can always trust the "The Game Awards" to recognize greatness, especially from a little indie team like ours.

just...wow. ❤️

Big prediction for something that will be revealed at the Game Awards, an interactive piece of software that may or may not feature gameplay, graphics, sound, and text. You've heard it here first folks.

I am so furious at YouTube for doing this. You have literal gambling ads plastered across your website. The video you take action on contains no real gambling, and is promoting an LGBTQ+ children's charity fundraiser. Absolutely horrendous image and optics for the website. Completely moronic
I am beyond upset, YouTube has age restricted my video tonight for thinking it depicts real actual gambling. The video is on CloeverPit and contains no real gambling, but does contain a massive charity push for The Trevor Project. Last time this happened I almost quit YouTube

It's deeply surreal to me that people praise Cyberpunk now.

I don't trust them. Even if you fixed all the bugs, that game was just so shallow and nothing. I guess that's what AAA gamers are used to tho?

This is DEFCON 1 priority, y'all. Call your senators, reps, call your friends and tell them to call their senators and reps about this. Call your grandma and tell her to call her senators and reps about this.

What we have here will be *gone* if these bills pass.
Congress is attempting to fast track KOSA and more than a dozen bills that would restrict internet access, censor speech and increase surveillance under the guise of protecting children.

Committee hearings begin tomorrow.
Lawmakers to consider 19 bills for childproofing the internet
KOSA is back, along with more than a dozen other bills that will erode free speech and privacy in the name of protecting kids.

Game developers were here first. Not executives.

Game developers make games. Not executives.

Game developers have skills & knowledge important to the business. Not executives.

Game developers deserve to keep their jobs. Not executives.

Executives are replaceable. Not game developers.

One of the reasons I've never bought into AI doomerism, is that to believe "it's here to stay, get used to it!" you have to buy into the idea that AI generated elements are so hardcoded or integral as to be permanent, when they really aren't.

You can simply remove it, and it's gone just like that.
