The dreaded Judeo-Bolshevist structural pharmacologist with too much free time in lab. Please at least glance at the literature before opining on biology. Opinions unfortunately my own. He/him

Reporter: Are you affirming that you think the president is a fascist?

Mamdani: I've spoken about --

Trump: Just say yes, it's easier than explaining.

One of the biggest categorical errors made by Americans of all stripes is believing that de jure annexation of the oPt, specifically the occupied West Bank, is more meaningful than de facto annexation which happens daily and has been happening daily. People inflate the import of symbolism.

"I can't believe anyone would sincerely care about dark-skinned foreigners, so if you say you do, you must be lying" is the ultimate underlying view.
The people who say "why this obsession with Palestine? why don't you post about Sudan?" never post about Sudan themselves.
What they mean is "it's fine you don't care about Sudan. You should be similarly indifferent to Palestine"

(of course, many people do post about both and other crises)

The probability of Turkey invoking Article 5 continues its slow creep upward.
In an interview today, Netanyahu says the following

•There will never be a Palestinian state, even if this means no normalization with Saudi Arabia

•Israel won't leave the occupied Syrian territories

•Israel would like a deal with Turkey but is prepared to treat it like Iran
Netanyahu: ‘There will not be a Palestinian state,’ even at cost of ties with Saudis
In interview with Telegram channel, PM says border deal with Syria 'preferable' but won't budge on security demands; Israel to boost arms industry to ease reliance on US

Not a criticism of Mamdani in particular, but as long as we allow massively funded, heavily armed right-wing paramilitaries to have veto power over every aspect of public policy, it will be impossible to enact even the most basic social democratic reforms that a lot of liberals say they want.
Before his election, Mamdani was adamant: The CCRB should get final say in NYPD discplinary cases. Now, after retaining Tisch as NYPD commish, Mamdani's changing his tune, saying he's mainly focused on ensuring CCRB's "recommendations" are "taken seriously." www.nydailynews.com/2025/11/20/m...
Mamdani softens hard line on role of NYPD watchdog in discipline after Tisch agrees to stay on
in the wake of announcing Wednesday that NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch will stay in her post under his administration, Mayor-elect Mamdani took a step back.

uh excuse me but yes I DO know what a tankie is. Donald trump is a tankie. People who understand politics? Tankies all. The shadowy figure that creeps up the basement stairs each night but never beyond, for whom I harbor dread yet a growing and confusing thrill? Tankie.

Some of the most credulous morons on this website are upset about the pushback to the Rainbow B52 being Good Actually.

I agree, which is why Kerry won in 2004 in a landslide for promising the Rainbow B-52. I'll definitely trust this lady on whether she "knows the enemy" or not.
I hate this sort of meme.

“The only difference between the parties is whether the power to destroy human civilization rests in the hands of leaders who think gays, women, and black people should have their rights acknowledged.”

Even if true, how is Rainbow B-52 not infinitely preferable?

China from cynical perspective benefits from inactivity in MENA because it allows the US to continue its irrational expenditure of resources for race war but you can't turn around and then claim it's actually moral to abstain. The USSR was an active albeit cynical player + helped South Africans.

Should probably be acknowledged that Islamophobia and anti Arab sentiment seems to be a load bearing part of American liberalism's total indifference at best and malice at worst to a particular section of the world

If you're wondering why a large chunk of ostensibly left-of-center pundits are waging war on environmental protections in the form of an "abundance agenda," it's because Silicon Valley has quietly developed a culture of rampant pollution.

Various group-philosophical pessimisms will have you believing that universalism is impossible, not worth striving for. That if you don't oppress, you will inevitably be a victim. I refuse. We are best protected by democracy, by the rule of law, by human and civil rights.

The guys who run Electric Intifada talk about this constantly btw, and you should listen to them because they're absolutely right. Literally just translating Israeli news will make you an anti-zionist if you don't have prior hangups about Israel lol. It is immediately clear what is up.

I know papers can't cite *all* the work in their field, but is it too much to ask that a Cell paper heavily using structural biology factchecks their introductory paragraphs to make sure they're not ignoring very similar work published and PDB deposited within the last year? 🧪
