Now I've got a picture in my head of a bunch of literal anuses walking around.
I picked up the 1/2" aluminum to finish the lower frame of my CNC router from my partners at the Metal Supermarket. I'll need another kidney for the gantry material, but this will keep me busy for a minute. Also, fasteners, omg. In related news, I do handy home repairs and improvements for money.

I oppose the resumption of sweeps beginning tomorrow. They are costly, ineffective and cruel. At a time when our Federal government is literally starving our most vulnerable neighbors, we add to that by violently taking from them what little they have? My statement attached.

Blazers say Matisse Thybulle underwent surgery to repair a torn UCL on his left thumb and will be re-evaluated in 4-6 weeks.
Still enjoying the tail end of the summer garden. I'm not preserving any peppers, we just eat a lot of spicy food. I need to up production next year. Typically, I kinda lost focus as far as the fall/winter stuff, but we do have some bok choi, which we have to race the slugs for.

Ryan says he needs "real institutional change" from the Parks department before giving them more funds.

YOU WERE LITERALLY THE PARKS COMMISSIONER. YOU MADE THIS MESS. YOU COULD HAVE MADE THOSE CHANGES.

Dan Ryan using his official city email to send a novel-length email telling people he's voting No on the Parks Levy is a great endorsement for voting Yes on the Parks Levy

Hey Portland, I just sent this to my councilors*. City Council has oversight authority they can wield if they want it. Let’s get some pressure pointed at EPG to get this started and let’s get some answers from the mayor.

* minus Dan Ryan because he’s worthless
I did "Commercial Chassis" and "Hearse" on the 1st 2.
Not once, but twice I failed to scroll down far enough to get the obvious correct answer.

Poor people buy drugs and cigarettes and alcohol and iced coffee and chocolate croissants bc they can afford small things that temporarily relieve the crushing fear of destitution. The rich should thank God every day for these pressure release valves we use.
Blaming economic collapse on a "sweet treat" is crazy
“At the same time, more than half of Gen Z members say they are struggling to make ends meet, yet a majority buy themselves a small treat, such as a pastry, coffee, or sweet, at least once a week. That can lead to overspending…”

The ruling class has had 20 years to come up with something better than “buy less avocado toast” to explain why you can’t afford a house. And they’ve opted to just play the old hits.

This really sucks.

Wilson is undermining social housing now.
Shake-up at the Portland Housing Bureau: Mayor Wilson put director Helmi Hisserich, an "unparalleled expert" on social housing, on leave with little explanation Thursday. She has been in the role since early 2024.

Mayor Keith Wilson has put Portland Housing Bureau Director Helmi Hisserich on leave, effective immediately. City Administrator Michael Jordan sent an email to city councilors and city leadership on O...

XJ12 spotted at Bimart. Vibed like it was being regularly driven, possibly by the barky dog in the driver's seat. Interesting customization with hand painted red accents and extremely cheap-looking LED driving lights. I resisted going back inside to see if I could spot the owner. #weirdcarbs
This is cruelty theater. It solves nothing.
Mayor Wilson announced police will begin citing homeless Portlanders for declining shelter, starting this weekend. The move comes as 15,000 homeless residents in the county are set to lose food assistance, and service providers say the criminal justice system only makes things worse.

This weekend, the city of Portland is resuming enforcement of its local laws governing when, where, and how homeless Portlanders can live in public spaces. Mayor Keith Wilson announced that enforcemen...

Wow, I poked my head into the bollard rabbit hole. I could not find a K8 rated helical anchored bollard, but my search was far from exhaustive. I noticed bollard sales copy seems quite focused on terrorism.
With 4 anchors and a wide base on the post, could be pretty stout. And maybe installing more bollards that will survive a 30mph collision is better than fewer that will withstand a 40mph collision (I'm totally making up these numbers, I have no idea what bollard standards are).
So those probably have some sort of helical thing anchoring them.
I think those would work fine in a lot of places with, say, long stretches of bike lane with no need for car crossings. Like much of Halsey near me.
I was picturing a meter mix type truck on permanent retainer, assuming PBOT doesn't own one, but I'm sure there are other methods. Will the helical piers withstand a 30mph hit? IDK. But whatever the state-of-the art is, lets do that. I'm sure different methods will be needed in different places.
