There's a million layers of paint on the other side of these doors lol. I think it was a nationwide phenomenon, but I'm not sure. It's wild builders in the PNW were using tropical hardwood because it was cheaper than Doug fir. It's still pretty common as a veneer on marine plywood. Not cheap tho.
