Let's talk about generative AI, contaminated information, and rhubarb.

Once upon a time, Europe was at war.

Food was scarce, and the government of the quote-unquote United Kingdom looked for alternatives. 1/

Weighted blanket review: very warm, emits soothing noises, but got into an energetic fight with itself in the middle of the night and ran off in two different directions. Still five stars.

The absolute state of this.

Honestly, I am more and more convinced that a lot of human behaviour comes down to:

- children have *no* idea what's going on most of the time and find enjoyment and relief in discovering rules
- sometimes these are wrong, like 'all furry animals are dogs...
‘Gender critical’ transphobes are now just openly advertising the fact they want to be the genital inspector Karen! 😆

They’re so immersed in their own transphobic hate bubble, they don’t even realise how bad this makes them look!

Friends often post pictures or lists of birds they have encountered, and mine would be:

- the two crows that hang out outside
- unless they're rooks?
- definitely too small to be ravens
- small brown thing that Mycroft definitely thinks he could catch if he was not an indoor cat
- carrier bag

I have trouble telling AI art from human art mocking AI but either way:

We, the nerds who admire sports fans' stats-based prowess but are too socially incompetent to tell them so, should spread this far and wide.

If they can't bring down the generative AI everywhere cult, no one can.

GO YERKS!
For anyone worried AI will replace all of us.

Could someone explain to me what is meant when a British person refers to "the middle class" ? Like, in the US, as I hear it, it basically just means a person who makes a certain amount of money, not too far below and not wildly above the median. Seems like a complex concept when UK writers use it?

Edwin had reached the last chapter of Mr Kafka' s book, and was dismayed that it gave no advice about what to do if your wife turned into a giant Cornish pasty and bore you a misshapen pastry baby with a detachable head.

Once. I asked it what books I'd written and it got the first two right but then hallucinated a YA called The Cat And The Staircase.

My elderly PC is dying and I am resigning myself to the annoyance of learning a new operating system, because to avoid chatbot creep I'm jumping ship to Linux.
Hands up if you've never used Chat GPT ✋

(I feel like Dozer and Tank in The Matrix right now - at first I didn't use it because, rather ironically, I'm lazy and stubborn (peak Taurus energy there) - literally no, don't make me use the new thing I don't wanna. Now I'm glad I didn't 😅)
Probably a good way to tell right now if the job you’re applying for is run by absolute dumbfucks is to ask if they’re using AI.

I'm not even a knitter & I'm giving #gameofwool the side-eye. All the contestants seem lovely and very creative but I feel like they could have set a more reasonable timescale and then just had them finish the projects in the barn if they thought footage of people sitting there knitting was needed.

UK friends of a #goth / #tarot persuasion, the Killstar eBay outlet are selling these cards for £7 a box and they're an absolute bargain - heavy card, slightly metallic, silver edged, about the size of a big Thoth. Not sponsored or anything, just wanted to share.

If people who are 'influentialish in AI ethics' want to listen to my point of view they can contact me and offer to pay me.

Which I note that AI companies did not do when they scraped my books or my AO3.
People blocking you, whether artisinally or via blocklist, are doing you the courtesy of signaling that you will not vibe well with each other and self-selecting out of the pool of people on Bluesky you will potentially have to deal with.
Blocking hatemongers is one thing but this trend of using mass block lists to avoid hearing from people who might or might not hold points of view you expect to disagree with is unhealthy imo and hurts the platform.

Bluesky was better off with folks like Margaret Mitchell and Giada Pistilli on it.
