Truth time:

Hillary Clinton ran a good campaign. Kamala Harris ran a great campaign considering the circumstances. Trump ran a shit show of a campaign both times.

He won anyway because

1. The mainstream media coverage did everything possible to help him
2. The voters made a dumb, terrible choice.
I'm sorry, why are we retroactively acting like his campaign was particularly good in 2024? It was a shit show, it just didn't matter.

Even in a recent interview, Rob Reiner was very clearly one of the funniest people to ever live.

Crazy thing is, Disney already HAS a Stephen Schwartz musical that takes a classic fairy tale that became an evergreen Golden Age of Hollywood classic and tells its story from a different character's perspective.

It was called Geppetto, it was made three years BEFORE Wicked, and it sucked.
Disney must have some SERIOUS Wicked envy

And Dan? It’s been five years.

he is a fully formed oaf, consuming eggs by the dozen in one of the greatest villain songs ever written, and that is all we need of him

The Maleficent and Cruella movies were already goddamn pointless and this idea is even MORE goddamn pointless.

Gaston was already a brilliant subversion of the "mighty hero" trope. He's the kind of character who would've been the main good guy in most movies.

Donald Trump maliciously mocks the brutal murder of Michele & Rob Reiner, and Republicans don’t bat an eye. But as soon as you quote Charlie Kirk’s views, all hell breaks loose.

not to state the obvious, but:

he has also, at a minimum, seen the news that homicide squad was investigating the house. he wants people to think that he is having his political enemies murdered.

Kimmel was almost fired for FAR far less than this. Fuck this insufferable diseased baboon with all the cacti in Texas.

Rob Reiner was a good guy. He made a lot of movies about good guys, in worlds where not everyone was good and you didn’t have to be good. He made movies about people trying. He was angry, as many hopeful people are. He knew the world could be better and he wanted it to be. His death is devastating.

Why do we always use Mickey to depict the entirety of Disney and their evils when it's the real humans in charge of it ruining everything? Sure, he's the mascot and easier to draw than Bob Iger, but do you really think he'd approve of the lowdown stuff going on right now?

This review was in the crossword this weekend. I have to cherish a (bygone) world where a movie maker could have a flop, could err, could live to create another thing for the world. We should do what we can to let all the robs Reiner flourish and tell their stories.
One of my all-time favorite clips of Rob Reiner, from his Friars Club Roast in 2000, as he reads aloud Roger Ebert's infamous scathing review of his movie North. The man had an amazing sense of humor about himself. RIP.

Rob Reiner's final film was Spinal Tap II. (His first AND last films were both Spinal Tap, how bout that?) And while it's nowhere near as good as the original (how could it be?) and honestly feels more like a reunion TV special than a proper movie, I think it's still quite a good bit of fun.
