Throwing on an N95/KN95 (not a surgical mask!) to go to the grocery store or take transit is a wildly effective way of avoiding illness! At very least, think about how much you can't afford to miss work with the flu.
Multiple friends have caught COVID recently, including some of my more cautious pals. There are a lot of winter germs in crowded places right now, fam. Personally, I never feel that shopping or riding transit unmasked is worth potentially getting sick. You can always renew this practice.

People outside of Canada need to realize Mark Carney has cut thousands of public service jobs and fast tracking neoliberal business and energy sales over Indigenous land and LGBTQ+ rights in the country.

He's paving the way for fascism but getting credit as some brave leader calling out Trump
“Canada needs to stand against the kind of intolerance that's sweeping the world.”

Fascism scholar Jason Stanley tells @mehdirhasan.bsky.social why Canadian PM Mark Carney should have more explicitly decried rising global intolerance in his Davos address.

{whispering} people convicted of violent crimes also do not deserve to live in these conditions
The government says the people being deported are violent criminals, and they treat them inhumanely. But mostly they are subjecting ordinary people to extraordinary punishments.

The comic book GENDER QUEER: A MEMOIR by Maia Kobabe is currently the most-banned book in the United States so please check it out at your favourite bookshop or library 💡
It has never been more important in most of our lifetimes than now to make art that deeply offends and concerns fascists.

A reminder: there is not a single housing market in America—not one city, state, or county—where someone relying on SSI can afford a one-bedroom apartment.

Deaths like these are always preceded by engineered abandonment. Disproportionate homelessness among people with disabilities is no accident.
High rents outpace federal disability payments, leaving many homeless
Supplemental Security Income, a federal program meant to be a financial floor for people unable to work, hasn't kept pace with inflation. Many recipients are homeless, unable to save for an apartment.

Vortigern bargaining to become a demon knight!

King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword (2017) is criminally underrated and fun as hell, so I've felt compelled to do some drawrings about it.

Democratizing the arts looks like universal income, low-barrier grants for both emerging and working artists, well-funded municipal arts & recreation programs, vibrant third spaces, and a well-funded public school system with progressive curriculum.

Not a free pass for corporate-owned slop engines.
Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams

Another incredibly moving "abrasive person protecting a child" scene is Yoren in Arya's last GoT chapter. Not just finding her to help, but caring enough to force her to look away. You don't expect it from Yoren of all fuckin people.
Reading ASOIAF for the first time in years because AKOTSK has reignited my passion, and That Syrio Scene still makes me weeeep.

An abrasive person suddenly protecting a child will fuck me up every time, as will self-sacrifice, and no-one-will-ever-know, no-glory-forthcoming sacrifice most of all.

My wife and I have made the executive decision that everyone can stop calling Gravedigger Hound and Frey Pies "theories"-- clearly telegraphed subtext is not the same as theories.
ASOIAF theories that I just thought were fact while reading lol:

-Jojenpaste (idk!)

-Gravedigger Hound (is this not just clear subtext? Why call this a theory??)

-Frey pies (same note! Also I have a Frey pie tattoo)

-Pretty Meris=Brienne (disproven, but I didn't even think it was a secret!)

Day 3: DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH LESS YOUR BODY HURTS WHEN YOU GET SLEEP (and your hypermobile body can't tense itself in weird skrunkly ways while you're asleep)
I've been prescribed cool muscle relaxants to make me sleep like a real human and not someone who once got a sleep study result of "huh, no REM sleep, weird"

Last night I saw yet another interview on #CBC News Network about avoiding illness. The “expert” did not say a word about airborne spread of Norovisris or Covid

Washing your hands is not nearly enough! It spreads in the air!

Do better CBC. It’s been 6 years!

@brodiefenlon.bsky.social
It’s airborne and we are still being told to wash our hands for a predominantly airborne virus. bsky.app/profile/elho...
Here is Dr Barry Jones explaining that they knew from ‘day 1’ it was airborne and a virus of some consequence. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cpR...

Two things I’m not sure is widely understood:

1. Many public servants no longer have their own desks and work in transient government co-working spaces

2. Many describe a Kafkaesque existence of going to physical offices only to spend their time on video calls with the people sitting next to them
Federal public servants called back to office 4 days a week starting this summer | CBC News
The federal government expects its employees to return to in-office work for a minimum of four days a week starting this July.

Worst ASOIAF theories:

-Tyrion secret Targ (sucks shit for myriad reasons, esp undermining all the Tywin comparisons)

-Benjen is Coldhands (makes no sense)

-Syrio=Jaqen (how dare you)

goddamn AKOTSK is a perfect fantasy series and by far my favourite George RR Martin adaptation.

I love this bisexual pirate so much. "The Laughing Storm" is one of the best monikers in all of A Song Of Ice And Fire.

Well, I've now had two days in a row of probably 50% less pain than I'm used to and 3x as much energy.

Ngl it's genuinely funny that I've spent 15yrs trying every kind of doctor & lifestyle change, but it might turn out I just needed some fuckin rx muscle relaxants to sleep decently the whole time.

They know it could derail their careers.

They know it could disable them.

They’re practicing self care and community care.

Give them a gold medal in public health!
