I really like the “helpful information” column in the canada council grant portal that reminds you of documents you need but only on a single field that you have to click through in order, and you can't actually upload the documents on that page. you just gotta remember i guess?

It's a weird situation where licensed professionals are terrified of being sued if they give advice publicly and total charlatans and scammers give loud and confident advice and are apparently immunized. Guess what that does combined with the incentives of social media? bsky.app/profile/illi...
Plus legal advice, plus financial advice, etc etc. it’s too easy to get crank messages out there and the common denominator is the social media company itself.

Framing the various anti-trans hobby-horses as appeals to authority is exactly right. What’s bizarre about them is the idea that the idea that our biology has some kind of authority that we must obey. Biology is who we are, but it’s not our boss. It can’t tell us what to do.

Here I’ve been assuming that private facilities hurt the public system by luring doctors away from it, but apparently alberta has decided to skip that step and just assign doctors from the public system to work there directly to wreck the system faster

can't believe outlets are running moral-panic headlines again based on flimsy anecdata from the *same* trade group (the national retailer federation) and sponsored by the *same* anti-theft company (sensormatic) that had to retract this *same* "study" just two years ago for being bogus.

So it turns out that trying to follow forum/freeform roleplayers expectations about the in-character/out-of-character boundary makes it impossible to do the hobby that I call “roleplaying”, that is, moving between talking about fiction and mechanics fluidly while portraying a character among them
Fascinated by the way people in over/under feel the need to mark convos as “ooc” that are about self-organizing when the game is a role playing game about self-organizing
