Everyone’s introducing themselves, so I'll join in.

I’m an award-winning writer of personal essays living in the north of England. Here are my books (I will talk about them a lot). This is my massive dog (I will talk about her a lot). I’m a pretty harmless presence really.

Time to get your Cliff Richard 2026 calendars.

And if you'd like a little preview, this is the thread for you.

Straight away, the cover pulls you in. He's so young and trendy!

Somebody posted an old photo in a Facebook local group and asked if anyone could clean it up. Well-meaning people turned to #AI. Lots of responders seemed happy with the results, but this is how you destroy historical records.

AI IS NOT FUCKING INEVITABLE
AI will reshape publishing jobs, from editorial and production to marketing, sales and operations. The question is not whether this happens, but who shapes these changes, says Bec Evans 👇 #BookSky

I have always been terrified and mesmerised by Udo Kier. 🧛‍♀️
Once, in a gay bar in Palm Springs, I turned around and he was just standing there, holding a drink. I checked in the bar mirror to see if he had a reflection. He saw me checking and smiled. It was perfect.

It's a sobering moment as a writer when you learn that Poop and Learn by Willy Wiper is outselling not only your book but those of most of the authors you know.

Be careful with geolocation parking apps. I just got a £100 fine because I was in a hurry and didn't realise that, when I was paying, my app had picked up the location of a car park down the road and not the one I was in.

Someone told my mum about Furries and she didn’t believe they were real, so messaged me to verify. It felt oddly like the opposite of telling someone that Santa doesn’t exist.

Popped into Manchester yesterday and these were the images that persisted for me.

1. A Freddo tragedy.
2. THIS PAINTING.
3. Everywhere that was once cool now looking like this.

Last night I gave a talk in this later packed room about writing stories that confront embarrassing experiences. Proud of myself for finding a way to monetise a life of fucking things up.

Just realised that the physical edition of this magazine is the first time I’ve had a print ad for my book. And it features a quote from @jenniegauthor.bsky.social too. 🎷🎷🎷

If you’d asked anyone I went to high school with to name the kid least likely to write an article for a magazine called MAN that has a footballer on the front, they’d have likely said me. Or just sworn and thrown things at you because it was that kind of school.
