Back from the framers. A rare, original cinema window card from Hollywood's #GoldenAge, for the 1930 film Shadow of the Law.
Yet another unexpected/bonkers vintage movie find in a Swiss charity shop. Previously, I also found 3 half-sheet posters from the 1940s/50s.

*squints at Ellis Island. "As many as two-fifths of Americans may be descended from the immigrants" processed there.

Stephen Miller, of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, whose great-grandparents to migrated to America to "escape Russian pogroms and the Holocaust".
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

Swallowed a tangerine pip and now a tangerine tree is going to grow inside me like one of those insect parasites that hijacks their host's nervous system & brain, forcing them to do their bidding before destroying them. I don't want to become a tangerine zombie. The Xmas season is fraught with peril

Reading William Gibson's Neuromancer from 1984. He seems to have predicted...*gestures at everything: Cyberspace, VR, neural implants, AI. Just came across this line:
"How smart's an AI?"
"Depends. Some aren't much smarter than dogs."
Oh, and The Matrix shamelessly ripped it off wholesale, right?

Watching the new #Beatles Anthology series on Disney.
Looks like some of the older footage might have had an AI facelift. Every now and then there's a brief eye/head/hair movement that doesn't seem completely natural. And a couple of times John and George have an almost set-in-aspic sheen.

Love sci-fi films, but always struggle with novels. My brain can't get to grips with: "Jake awoke in Neu-Croydon and trip-shifted his Snow6. He'd been zamping the Decortex Line long before the Tokyo Dataspleen Protocols, unnerving the Neuro-Eidolon Body who had once declared him an ultra Cyberpug."

Does Points of View still exist? I just watched a 1975 episode of Call My Bluff & one of the definitions was incorrect. Swatchel was defined as another word for Mr Punch. Not strictly true; it's another word for swazzle, the device used to create Punch's voice (from the German schwätzen, to chatter)

Me (every morning): "Today I will listen to something upbeat & uplifting!.."

1 hour later...
I select an album by an East European or Scandi composer known for their bleak, plaintive &/or atonal works with titles like 'Requiem for Hope', 'Lament', 'Death of the Sky' & 'His Last Winter'.

Another record goes back to the sender for a refund.
Far too many people think "I'm sure this record will arrive undamaged if I just post it this paper bag."

Somebody posted an old photo in a Facebook local group and asked if anyone could clean it up. Well-meaning people turned to #AI. Lots of responders seemed happy with the results, but this is how you destroy historical records.

It's crucial that I take my pill.
Just as crucial that I don't exceed the stated dose.
I put it on my plate beside my sandwich.
I ate the sandwich.
But now there's no pill on the plate..
..or table/floor etc.
Did the pill get stuck to my sandwich and I ate it?
Or have I not taken it?
Life's a dick.

#NowPlaying an old Мелодия label copy of Romeo & Juliet by Prokofiev, which I picked up decades ago for a quid.
I was lucky enough to see the Bolshoi Ballet perform it at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow (back when it was feasible to live there)*
*I say feasible: someone shot at me from a high-rise.

Mentioned this before, but, last time I was at the dentist, they analysed my teeth with AI. It found an incipient cavity that the human dentist had not spotted.
Very clever.
Except that the cavity it found was just outside my actual head. Arguably, the entire universe is a cavity outside my head.
