A l'oeil nu, Mercure ressemblerait plutôt à la Lune. Ici les couleurs reflètent la diversité des terrains à la surface de la planète.

First Trump's tariffs tipped the Canadian and Australian elections to the center-left parties.

Then his interference in Brazil flipped Lula's numbers, and Greenland threats revived the Danish left — both ahead of 2026 elections.

Trump is the international left's best friend.

Last summer, the EU (the Commission) was held back from retaliating by weak member states. The Commission is likely going to be unleashed now. And they have been doing a lot of thinking about how to retaliate. The question is how far are they willing to go. 3/

What Trump is showing us is that huge numbers of people who think of themselves as leaders (tech bosses, Infantino, Machado, many journos & perhaps some UK pols etc) are completely lacking in dignity & are unworthy of our regard.

Not everyone believed me when I wrote that Trump wants Greenland becuase it would make him feel important, but that's what he told the NYT:

When asked why he needed to possess the territory, he said: “Because that’s what I feel is psychologically needed for success"

Curtis Yarvin is beloved of people of mediocre mind and weak character. They want to go Nazi, but they don’t have the cobbles to do it without a gloss of mediocre pseudo-intellectual gibberish supporting it.

Curtis Yarvin has written a very long screed in defense of his post in which he said, “Hitler spoke the truth.”

A sampling of select portions is below and includes, in reference to Jewish people, the words:

“The only way to tell is the name and the nose.”

Between 1996 and 2024, sales of AOP wine in France declined by 1.424 million hl (-29%). Most of this decline is due to Bordelais (-652,802 hl, -44%), Vallée du Rhône (-324,408 hl, -32%), and Languedoc-Roussillon (-204,789 hl, -45%). In contrast, AOP sales of Burgundy wines increased by 14%.

Oil companies aren’t going to sink tens of billions of dollars in capital expenditures that will take decades to pay off in order to revive Venezuela’s oil sector when they don’t know what the security situation will look like in 6 days, 6 months, or 6 years from now. They are not charities.
Trump wants U.S. oil companies to revive the Venezuelan oil industry,

but major production increases could require “tens of billions of dollars over multiple years,”

and involvement could be messy.

It won’t be worth it for many U.S.
oil companies.

America really went from Barack Obama, who taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago, to a guy who brags about passing a test with questions like “what day is today?” and “what’s the relationship between an apple and an orange?”

I guess we should be glad he’s passed it 3 times. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Then look up to the top right.

Spot Mars' moon Phobos high in the sky.

Then notice the bright spot beside Phobos.

That's Earth.

Little known fact: Germany (the world’s largest cheese exporter by both weight and value) has a positive cheese trade balance with Italy. It exports more cheese to Italy than it imports from Italy, though the gap has narrowed.

Some of this is marketing hype from people who are selling AI tools (Boris works on Claude Code) but it rings true

This is a great analysis of why conservatives feel persecuted for others simply existing or being acknowledged.

It’s fear their identity and choices will stop being mainstream or normal. That’s why they get upset at Happy Holidays (acknowledging other celebrations exist) versus Merry Christmas.
