Evidence that the massive swing among young voters back to Dems that we saw in NY, VA, and NJ earlier this month is not limited to those states.

Take PA: from Eday '24 to Jan 20th, young new regisrants were +5R.

In the last month of this year's election they were +24D.

Immigration enforcement is usually thought of as a federal issue, but ICE's work is intertwined with state law in a number of ways. @aliciabannon.bsky.social examines recent state litigation WI, NY, and CA that will shape the relationship between ICE and the states & localities in which it operates.

The Senate will come back a week later to vote on whatever the House passes, but the Senate president still says the votes are not there in his chamber.

My suggestion:

The Immigration Nationality Act of 1965 - which can start with the story of the closing off of immigration in the 1920s and run through the sometimes fraught story of the country becoming the diverse, multiracial society of today after 1965.
I figure Ken Burns has one, maybe two big documentary series in him before he fully retires. What do you think they should be? My votes include Football, Hip-Hop, World War 1, Reconstruction (though Skip Gates did this one well), Iraq/Afghanistan, 19th Century Expansionism.

Nothing from SCOTUS on these cases in this morning’s orders, but that’s not surprising.

Cases, especially ones with big issues like this, are often listed for conference multiple times before the Court makes a decision on whether to hear it.

Next conferences are in December.
Today at conference, the Supreme Court will consider whether to hear cases from North Dakota, Mississippi, and Alabama that raise the question of whether individuals harmed voters can enforce the Voting Rights Act through a private right of action.
