I don’t get the sense that the NYT is trying to present Chicagoans as being particularly militant here

There’s a generational split in how this word is interpreted. Younger ppl, likely further to the left, use it to mean organized, pro-active resistance to Trump, which is what the story describes. Furthermore, I don’t think Trump needs media headlines to justify more repression!

This is a bullshit headline in the New York Times. There’s no “uprising” in Chicago. Rather, Chicagoans are peacefully defending themselves against ICE violence. Use of the term “uprising“ is just what the Trump regime wants to excuse a further fascist crackdown in Chicago.

One of the "Democrat programs" cut by Trump: Federal building inspectors who test smoke alarms, plumbing fixtures, electric outlets, door locks, circuit breakers and more in subsidized housing, while also checking for lead paint, mold, pests and other hazards.

You can't just drive your monster truck to your white flight suburb & escape the effects of the systems you plundered & destroyed. That's not how social systems work.

Greg Bovino, Kristi Noem, and DHS need to answer for their unchecked attacks on Chicago residents.

ICE is an out-of-control danger to our peaceful communities.

The images from the Sun-Times today speak for themselves.

The @chicago.suntimes.com photographer who risked their personal health and safety to take this photograph is Anthony Vazquez. Please credit photographers and media outlets. In this age of misinformation, a photo with no context could be anything at all.

The Alberta teacher strike that has affected more than 700,000 students isn’t just another labour dispute.

It’s the latest front in a long campaign to undermine education — closely linked to the right-wing Project 2025 initiative to transform America.

the circle of state-defined “right” and “wrong” is rapidly contracting, stranding ppl that are generally amenable to how things were going outside the line. This dynamic vs. our learned passivity will determine what happens in the months ahead

Watching people being brutalized by the state, secure in the knowledge that I'm safe because I don't do anything wrong. And the best part? The state can't suddenly and arbitrarily redefine what "wrong" means

I’ve been helping out at my kid’s school by looking out for ICE during drop-off & pick-up w/other parents. This is tragic, but also a powerful moment for our community. It’s a wonderful day in Chicago because our response to state repression is solidarity & care & this will continue to be the case.

I love the Comuta-Car because when Commuter Vehicles bought Sebring-Vanguard, the only major change they made to the design of Sebring-Vanguard's CitiCar was to add truly massive bumpers to meet new U.S. safety regs. The bumpers take up something like 20% of the total body length.

Opening tomorrow night! Come see some impressive art and artifacts from the studio of a man who deeply influenced the visual vernacular of Chicago during the early 20th century.

The annual Historic Pullman House Tour is also happening this weekend, so you can make a full day of it on Saturday.
