Europe imagines it can win at Washington’s “neo-royalist” game. Trump sees Europe as an extension of his domestic retribution campaign. Both are wrong, and both underestimate Europe’s ability to fight back (if it finds the will). My thoughts for @agendapublica.es:

Against Donald Trump, a Europe that abandons its illusions and wields its coercive power
For Jeremy Cliffe, editor at the ECFR think tank, the administration’s National Security Strategy confirms that both Europe and Washington misunderstand their relationship. In his analysis, he argues ...

All these people deserve to go to prison for a very, very long time.
After Rubio told Congress lifesaving aid programs were active, his advisors turned around and denied funding requests that would allow those same programs to operate. In South Sudan, that incapacitated the country’s health and sanitation system just as doctors were scrambling to contain cholera.

This summer, Brett Murphy, @peterdicampo.bsky.social and I went to South Sudan, where the U.S. had been supporting the response to a historic cholera outbreak in the world’s poorest country before pulling the plug.

We found shuttered clinics and dead bodies. www.propublica.org/article/usai...

"Yu know what annoys me, how much television affects people. I was watching that Buffy the Vampire Slayer the other day, and you know what. Before I knew what I was doing I was on the bus to Golders Green and must have slaughtered about 18,000. I thought it's television that's driven me to this."

Noam Chomsky’s emails to Jeffrey Epstein display none of the fawning chatter found from, say, Larry Summers. And he does not appear to have been co-opted by whatever access Epstein provided.

What the Noam Chomsky–Jeffrey Epstein E-mails Tell Us
Chomsky has often suffered fools, knaves, and criminals too lightly. Epstein was one of them. But that doesn’t mean Chomsky was part of the “Epstein class.”

It's not that they aren't present - it's not great are not here and genuinely think BS would be better if people were more accommodating to those on the right. But that X is rigged in favour of not just the right but *the far right*. It's not OK for a social media platform to push Nazi race science.
IMO it's hard to combat the dangerousness of the right by participating in a platform where they aren't present.
I think the best way to explain the X vs Bluesky preference is whether a person thinks the left is more annoying than the right is dangerous.

The reason so many Noah Smiths end up on the X side of that equation is that while the left annoys them personally, the right mostly endangers other people.

I don't think this is unsurprising. Because it's not their thing, their skill, so don't see as valuable but needless hard work. Flip it the other way and say you have an artist saying "wow, I wish had a lovely machine that takes care of everything that goes into business and monetising my work".
I have grown to believe that excessive wealth does something to your brain that is analogous to a serious head injury
