The reaction to lifting kids out of poverty tells us a lot

There’s a lot of people getting their knickers in a twist over Rachel Reeves not crashing the economy isn’t there?

I’m quite enjoying the 180 turn on a six pence from “you’ve wrecked the economy and created a black hole” to “there was no black hole and this is even worse”.

If you look at the ridiculous case studies they dredged up & the desperate attempts to hang Reeves for ‘lying’ about the rationale behind a policy she *did not introduce*, you might work out why right-wing media is straining *not* to talk about the finer detail of her (unremarkable) budget.

Boycotting the party you created is quite something even for the hard left 🤣

Look, I’m a union MP. I want the employment rights bill in full. But I am also a pragmatist. Unions sat round the table with business and ministers and hammered out a compromise which means protections from unfair dismissal come in from six months not two years and we get Royal Assent by Christmas

Ahh this explains the outcry about the budget. Right wingers losing ground. Bless

If you think a seventh prime minister in ten years will magically solve the structural problems, deep malaise and febrile atmosphere caused by austerity, Brexit and social media, you're a fundamentally unserious person.

Jesus famously said “I say unto thee let the poor starve and only look after yourselves”

I’ll say this slowly so everyone might understand:

Freezing the tax thresholds is NOT a tax rise.

Hope that’s clear.

If this policy affects you it means you’ve had a payrise and if you tip into a higher tax rate you’ll still be getting more money.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

On the day net migration is down by 80% from its peak in 2023 🤔
November 27, 2025 at 10:09 AM
Let’s face it we know this won’t be enough for people. But this has to be good news for the government. I mean we can argue about if it’s good news for the country/economy but let’s see how the right wing media spin this now. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cn...

Plus sides to today: Two-child benefit scrapped. Largely progressive tax implications. Good market reaction. No big spending cuts. Nightmare prospect of cutting funding to net zero etc avoided. It's a left-wing budget. Those who say there's no difference between Labour and Tories are bananas.

Don’t think enough has been made of the rape clause being removed from our lives today. That was the single most disgusting policy of my lifetime.

Yep. It’s overt and relentless. There should be absolutely no place for racism, especially under the guise of ‘news.’

Badenoch is so incredibly unpleasant. Her response is nothing but personal attacks and describing support for kids in poverty as "hand outs". Grim.

I’m quite shocked. It’s disgusting.
Utterly classless from Kemi.

Desperate, personal, gutter attacks - not economics.

The few remaining sensible tories behind her, look mortified.

What an embarrassment to parliament she is.

That was a moment! Removing the rape clause and children out of poverty. THIS is Labour! ❤️

Everyone needs to calm down a bit. It’s an embarrassing and stupid leak. But we knew all the detail anyway- the Treasury had leaked it. Markets have reacted well. This bit of process won’t be anything close to the most politically difficult thing about today.
Keir Starmer: "The Chancellor will set out the Budget in just a few minutes time."

In fact, the OBR did it just a few minutes ago.
