Stephen Miller is a fascist
the thing that's making me an Angry Old Guy is seeing so many younger people bizarrely terrified of anything unfamiliar, a little dirty, a little worn, anything that isn't completely antiseptic and clean. this is a heavy generalization but I still see it all over
I think there’s a huge section of society who just can’t deal when their brain/body shows more than a 5% departure from normal. Some weird obsession with maintaining the status quo

I think we could catch some very interesting footage when ICE thugs initially don't realize they're being recorded
Honestly Meta glasses might be a good bodycam for protesters
New: A CBP agent in Charlotte wore Meta Ray Bans to an immigration raid and used it to record, based on photos shared with 404 Media. We've seen them wearing these glasses before but this is the first specific evidence we have of them recording

Federal inaction means states must lead on reducing emissions — but their reluctance to reallocate road space for cars may doom climate goals.

Yeah, I as a 37 year old having lived through now 10 years of this, now have anti-populism as a core political belief
I think that the longstanding trauma of this moment is going to be that many people in their 20-30s rn in not-quite-elite circles are going to be intensely small c conservative for a long time and have something of a hair-trigger for anything that smells of populism for the rest of their days
honestly i think you could probably describe the vast majority of American media, political, and corporate elites as decadent

nobody knows how bad things can get

It does really seem that the not quite elite circles are the vanguard of democracy right now. The true elites are decadent shitheads who will destroy us all.

you'd think that the fact that the president is currently trying to get the Feds to arrest Senators would be what the NYT editorial board would focus on but...

Indigenous developments were totally exempt from the community approvals and all zoning limitations. Believe it or not the liberal white residents nearby with their “in this house we believe” signs found ways to call it a greedy development out of scale with the context
I take a look at the growth of indigenous urbanism, and some of the incredible developments being built by Canada's First Nations, in this HIGH SPEED dispatch:

There is a real, fundamental misunderstanding at work here, and what I wish is that Matty would understand that many other people view an open racist and eugenicist with the same level of visceral contempt that he reserves for a left-wing writer who insulted his blog once.
I like these three. He’s also done a bunch of pro-vaccine stuff that I like to recommend to conservatives because but that wouldn’t be informative to the BlueSky audience.

for me, a local legislator proudly posting a long, heartfelt thread about the anniversary of a nonbinding resolution about global politics - one which, like most such resolutions, resulted in absolutely zero IRL change - does not at all land the way that it is intended to

in the California Dept of Public Health we trust
I'm educated guessing that this past week was a turning point for many public health orgs in the U.S. with looking to downplay or delete any CDC info or links on their websites. It's getting to the point where linking to the CDC shows you're not paying attention and not serious about public health.
I’ve now had multiple sources tell me the UK NHS is removing the CDC from its list of reliable sources.

Welcome to irrelevance.

One of the dilemmas of living through the second Trump administration is that saying these things out loud seems crazy. But yeah, the death penalty is an established, well-documented thing we have on the books for precisely these kinds of crimes; they obviously did it; and it's not hard to prove.
"the government should try, convict and then kill the secretary of defense for the crime he very obviously seems to have committed" seems like a radical thing to say, but -- no, it's not. it's the actual penalty for what pete hegseth, a man who ordered death squads to murder civilians, has done.

it is beneficial to Democrats for the Trump team to trust in Democrats being spineless, yet Democratic appearance of spinelessness undermines their chance to win elections such that they can strike back hard
I'm pretty sure this is wrong, because right now we're careening toward Trump, Hegseth, and Miller staking everything on nullifying the 2026 elections.

Hegseth certainly understands he's done for if Dems take Congress. Miller very likely feels similarly.

That's when the biggest protests happen.
calling my shot way in advance: election certification day, 2029, is going to see the largest no kings protest yet, with more than a million people in the streets of dc alone

just a message: no fucking funny business.
