Govt committee that has 6 NACTFirst members and 5 opposition parties members votes in favour of law that advantages NACTFirst despite vast majority of public submissions being against it.

They aren't even subtle
This Bill could invalidate the votes of enough people to swing the next election in favour of the current government for no reason other than that they failed to fill out the correct piece of paper by the "proper" time (as defined by the people who benefit from the rule change).
Justice Committee recommends passing Electoral Amendment Bill with some amendments
The bill would prevent same-day enrolments, ban prisoners from voting, and tighten up the rules around treating.

Not only is this blatantly unfair, but for a Party that doesnt believe in collective responsibility, theyre holding ALL children responsible for the actions of others...

People love archaeology, but they perceive it as a luxury. It's always been a bizarre contradiction, the awareness of the fundamental importance of history whilst not grasping how inherent archaeology is to that understanding. Archaeology is relentlessly undervalued within public investment.
New report on how people engage with archaeology is out - Trowel and Error: A Public User Needs Survey. Lots to digest but key conclusions are: 1) archaeologists risk undervaluing and hiding ourselves, our practices and the role we play in society... www.archaeologyuk.org/our-work/tro...

For context, these were due to be published in March 2025. The NZ govt prevented their publication because they intended to ban puberty blockers and the guidelines show they are safe, effective, and standard care internationally. Today they were released in an OIA putting them in the public domain.
In some good news, today PATHA has finally been able to release the 2025 Guidelines for Gender Affirming Care in Aotearoa New Zealand. You can read them here: patha.nz/resources-an...

📣 Working from home results in lower performance ratings📣

Managers give lower performance ratings to teleworkers than to office workers, even when holding performance constant.

Female teleworkers face an even greater disadvantage.

Board Chair here, and ditto.

I fail to see why they are doing this, is it too cynical to suggest it's a distraction from the curriculum issues, or are they just taking a public kicking that they didn't expert?

Boards Chair here - before our BOT passed a motion affirming our commitment to Te Tiriti, I received emails from parents and teachers urging the board on.

The union never said a word.

Amazing that reaffirming a commitment to Te Tiriti is viewed as "anti-govt" (his words)

again, any other government doing this would not have had a moments rest from nz media, their public lives made almost impossible and been hounded out of government

this coalition is being given the most cover and support, maybe in nz history, by media and institutions
I do not know off the top of head what is in the oath an incoming government makes to the Governor General, but it seems like passing legislation you actually think is bad should be some kind of breach of it

That's more than Ireland's entire generating capacity.
Today on Volts: I've had more requests to cover this than almost any other topic in the pod's history, so now, at long last, balcony solar! We dig into how "plug-in solar" took off in Europe & how it's making its way to the US, starting in Utah. Backyard DIY types rejoice!
What's the deal with balcony solar?
Cora Stryker joins me to explain how "plug-in" solar took Europe by storm and is finally, via Utah (?), making its way to America.
